The simple answer here is yes. There is however, more to it than that…
Disney vacations involve a lot of planning; after all there is so much to see and do. You want to get your money’s worth. With all of that rushing around though, you may come home needing a vacation to recover from your vacation. I wholeheartedly believe that if your time at Disney World is longer than five days you should include what my family calls a down day. Some people may call this a rest day or simply a day away from the parks. In my family’s case it is not necessarily a day away from the parks, but a day that is not planned out with dining and Fastpass+ reservations.
There are great ways to spend this down day, and here are some examples…
- If you’re planning on going a special ticket event (Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party or Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party) which don’t end until midnight use the morning and afternoon on this day to sleep in and relax so that you have energy for the party.
- Spend the day visiting other resorts.
- Spend the day at Downtown Disney (Disney Springs).
- Take advantage of the extras that are available (mini golf, watercraft rental, spas).
- Enjoy your resort’s pool.
You don’t necessarily have to spend the whole day away from the parks, but I highly recommend taking at least one day to slow things down, relax, and just enjoy all that Disney has to offer. We normally take our down day in the middle of our trip so that we can recharge after a busy first half, full of rushing from ride to ride, to Fastpasses, and to dining reservations, and have energy for the second half.
So, contact your favorite travel professional to start planning when you can enjoy a relaxing down day while still enjoying the Magic that Disney has to offer.
