Without a doubt, the highlight of our recent Disney Cruise Line vacation to the Bahamas was the day we spent at Castaway Cay! From the warm sunshine on my face to the tropical breezes swinging my hammock, followed by swimming in the most beautiful turquoise waters, it could not have been a more perfect day. Castaway Cay is in a word … paradise! The only problem was, one day was not enough! However, those of us who love Castaway Cay are in luck! Once again, this summer Disney Cruise Line will offer cruises to the Bahamas that include two stops at Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay! Let’s dive in and take a look at Castaway Cay and these special offerings for this summer.
Coasting along the ocean aboard the majestic Disney Dream, these 4- and 5-night cruises not only give you two memorable days at Castaway Cay but also makes a stop in Nassau, the Bahamas for even more fun excursions. Those fortunate enough to enjoy the 5-night sailings will also enjoy a day at sea to enjoy all the amazing onboard activities there is to offer, or if you are anything like our family … you will enjoy the AquaDuck, pool parties or just sitting poolside soaking up the sunshine!
What is Castaway Cay?
Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay is one of the many benefits reserved only for those guests sailing on select Disney Cruise Line’s Bahamian and Caribbean cruises. Winning the 2018 Cruise Critic Destination Award for Best Cruise Line Private Island, Castaway Cay has plenty of amenities to create a perfect beach day for everyone in the family. One of the huge advantages to Castaway Cay is that you can step off your Disney cruise ship knowing that beach chairs, beach umbrellas, and towels are all waiting for you when you arrive. After you spend some time soaking up the sun’s rays or splashing in the water, feed your hunger at the all you can eat lunch buffet and finish lunch off with a sweet treat of ice cream. The best part, all this is included with the cost of your cruise.
Does Castaway Cay have activities for everyone in the family?
Whether you want to just sit back and relax in the hammock under a shady palm tree or spend your day building sandcastles, it’s your time in paradise. There are several different areas on Castaway Cay to accommodate multigenerational traveling parties. On Castaway Family Beach you and your family can enjoy some family bonding as you play in the sand and splash in the surf. Don’t forget to check out Pelican Plunge. This floating water-play area has plenty to keep your family entertained including a couple of water slides and a bucket dump where you can get drenched and cool off from that warm tropical sunshine. The adults in the family can enjoy Serenity Bay. This adult only section of the island is the perfect place to relax and unwind.
If you have teens in the family, they can enjoy the Teen Hideout. Here on their own section of the island, teens (ages 14-17) can participate in daily activities under the supervision of Disney’s youth counselors. Teens can even check out a port adventure just for them on Castaway Cay called The Wild Side Teen Adventure where teens can bicycle around Castaway Cay, thrill seek in a high-speed boat ride on the open water, snorkel in the lagoon and then end the day hanging out in the Teen Hideout. If you have little ones (ages 3-12) check out Scuttle’s Cove to enjoy the Castaway Cay’s kids club with plenty of fun sand and water activities for the kids again under the supervision of the Disney’s youth counselors. There is also Spring-a-Leak a 2,400 square foot water play area which is a perfect place for the kids to cool off.
In addition to all the fun on the beach, you can also rent sea kayaks, paddleboats, aqua trikes, or paddleboards. If you want to take a look under the big blue then rent snorkel gear for the family and explore the ocean floor for all the sunken surprises and see some breathtaking wildlife such as sea turtles or colorful tropical fish native to the area. There are other great port adventures including bicycle rentals where you can explore the island. Ride your bike all the way to the observation tower to take a look at the whole island from a breathtaking perspective. If biking is not your thing then you can also check out fishing, parasailing, or other watercraft port adventures. Do remember that port adventures should be booked ahead of time and are available at an additional cost.
As you explore the island keep an eye out for Character Meet and Greets around the island to snap your perfect photo with some of the most beloved Disney characters. If shopping is more your style then check out, She Sells Sea Shells … and Everything Else for beach gear, exclusive Castaway Cay gear and so much more.
