Q: Can I upgrade or add an extra day to my Disney World theme park tickets?

A: Yes. With some exceptions.  The way that the Disney World ticket system works, is that the more days you add to your Magic Your Way tickets the cheaper the day-to-day rates are on the overall ticket price. So for those visiting the parks that wish they had more time and want to tack on an extra days worth of park tickets at the end, it is possible to get it at the cheaper rate.  All you need to do is stop by the ticket windows at your theme park, the Guest Relations building or your lobby concierge to add on the additional dates.

Guests should note that there are a couple of caveats to this.  The first is that you must upgrade within 14 days of your theme park ticket’s first use. The second is that you MUST have entitlements left on your card or MagicBands in order to be eligible for the upgrade.  So let’s say that you are 2 days into your 4-day  park ticket allocation with two days remaining.  You would easily be able to tack on an additional day making your ticket now a 5-day ticket rather than a 4.  This is fantastic because it is much cheaper to change a 4-day ticket to 5-day ticket ( a difference of $15 per person)  rather than purchasing a new ticket outright which will set you back over $100.00 per person.

However, I had a client recently who had just entered the park on the 4th day and wanted to add on the 5th day.  She was not able to do this as the minute she entered the park on her 4th day, she effectively used up her final ticket entitlement.  This means that she needed to make a separate ticket reservation for the 5th day and had to pay full price for her and her family.  So yes you can add on tickets but don’t wait until the last day to do so!

What if I want to upgrade to a Park Hopper or Water Park ticket? Again you are able to do this provided that you meet the conditions outlined above.  With Park Hopper, it is especially important that you add this on to your package early on in order to take full advantage of being able to hop from park to park.

Can I upgrade to an Annual Pass? Absolutely.  This actually makes a lot of sense if you decide you’ll be visiting the parks more than one time in a year.  All you need to do is visit the Guest Services window at your chosen theme park and ask for the upgrade.  The beauty of this is that they will take the total value of your ticket and put it on your annual pass.  So if you had a 5-day ticket with Park Hopper which comes to around $445 for an adult, Disney would subtract that from the $779.00 of the Annual Pass and you would only have to pay $359.00 for the upgrade.   It doesn’t matter if you’re 1 day into a 5-day park ticket or 4 days into a 5-day park ticket, the full amount of the 5-day tickets will still be deducted.  However, just like the upgrades listed above, you need to at least have one day left in your entitlements in order to make the upgrade.

Also a note of caution.  If you are thinking of upgrading from a Magic Your Way Ticket to an Annual Pass and you have the Park Hopper Plus add-on but aren’t planning on getting the Water Park add-on for your Annual Pass, you must use up your Water Park entitlements BEFORE you upgrade from standard tickets to an Annual Pass. Otherwise, you will lose your water park tickets in the upgrade.
