A First Look at Universal’s Whimsical New Theme Park Just for Little Adventurers
Frisco, Texas, is about to level up its fun factor in a major way. Universal Destinations & Experiences is officially bringing an entirely new kind of theme park to the Lone Star State, and it’s unlike anything they’ve ever done before. Say hello to Universal Kids Resort, opening in 2026 and built from the ground up for the youngest Universal fans.

Universal has done family-friendly before, but never on a scale like this. This is a full-on resort experience — hotel, seven themed lands, characters galore, rides sized for little explorers, and sensory areas intentionally designed to keep the day magical rather than overwhelming. Universal says this is their first park designed for a specific age bracket, and the attention to detail shows.
At the very front of the resort sits a 300-room hotel that doubles as the park entrance. Bright, colorful, and made for families, it sets the tone for a vacation that’s meant to be playful from the moment you wake up.
Inside the gates, the park’s heart beats in the Isle of Curiosity, featuring DreamWorks’ Gabby’s Dollhouse. Kids can dance with Gabby, grab cupcakes at Cakey’s Cupcakes, tackle shady lawns perfect for a rest break, and pick up must-have merch at the Universal Kids Resort Store.
Then it’s off to explore seven lands full of kid-sized adventures.
Shrek’s Swamp brings ogre magic to life with a charming playground, splash areas, character meet-and-greets, and a family-friendly ride where Shrek and Fiona recount their love story through the eyes of their mischievous triplets.

Next comes Nickelodeon’s Bikini Bottom, packed with rides starring SpongeBob and friends. Jellyfish Fields Jamboree floats guests above coral reefs, Bobbing Barrels turns watery chaos into sport, and Mrs. Puff’s Boating School lets kids “drive” their way to a boat license. Goofy Goober’s returns as the snack spot of undersea dreams.
Over in Minions vs. Minions: Bello Bay Club, little ones can soak in a turf war between Yellow and Purple Minions complete with splash battles, ride chaos, water features, and plenty of opportunities for shenanigans. Bello Bay Cruise and the Golf Cart Derby bring that signature Illumination energy to life.

Jurassic World Adventure Camp is a must for kid paleontologists. From a junior coaster to baby dinosaur hatchings, lookout towers, genetics lessons, and plenty of dry and wet play, this is a prehistoric playground brought to life. And yes, Bumpy fans, you’re in luck.
The vibrant world of TrollsFest explodes with music, color, bubbles, and glitter. Rides take you on balloon journeys and festival tours, while interactive shows let kids help tune instruments, aim spotlights, and prep for the big concert. Don’t skip the Troll-ify Me salon for the full makeover experience.
Finally, Puss in Boots Del Mar blends Spanish charm and storybook whimsy with carnival games, family rides, character moments, and a show celebrating Mama Luna’s Kitty Adoption Day. Expect meows, laughter, and plenty of heart-pawing cuteness.

Throughout the resort, sensory gardens create spots where families can decompress, unwind, and regroup — a welcome addition for parents who know theme park days can sometimes turn from fun to frazzle fast.
Universal clearly designed this resort with intention. Frisco is brimming with young families, and this entire project seems driven by the idea that kids deserve a park where they set the pace and imagination is the star. That means rides that don’t overwhelm, characters that feel accessible, and theming that taps into shows and stories today’s families genuinely love.
