Baby Zebras

Spring is definitely in the air at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and as a special treat for all those celebrating Mother’s Day, we here at Disney Addicts are delighted to share the news that two new baby zebras were born at the park over the past few weeks.

Though both babies are Grevy’s zebra foals which originate from Africa, the foals are not sisters.  The first zebra was born on April 26th to Laylee and the second was born on May 1 to Zuri.  As of going to print both zebras are nursing and bonding with their moms behind-the-scenes.  However, Disney has announced that they will join the heard on the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail overlook in the near future.

With the hustle and bustle around the Pandora attractions and headliners like Expedition Everest, it can be easy to miss out on all of the incredible wildlife that call Animal Kingdom home including these new additions.  Grevy’s zebras are one of the most endangered species of zebras with only about 2,500 in the world!

Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, this past week also marked the arrival of two red river hot piglets.  Chloe, a first-time mom gave birth to two adorable male piglets.  The piglets will remain backstage at the Lodge for the time being but we are being told guests on the Senses of Africa experience offered at Animal Kingdom Lodge have been able to take a peek at the new additions.

These are not the first new arrivals that the stork has delivered to Disney World this year.  In early 2018 a new baby hippo was also born at Animal Kingdom.  Augustus was the first hippo born at the theme park in 13 years! You can see him pictured above snuggling up to his mom Tuma.

Last October, Animal Kingdom Lodge also celebrated the arrival of beautiful baby Gemma the giraffe.  She came into the world at just under 160 lbs and was nearly 6 feet tall.  You can see her above nuzzling up to her mom Rori! She arrived close to the same time as male giraffe named Griffon.  Next time you visit this Deluxe Resort see if you can spot either of them roaming the savannas.

Finally, January 2018 also marked the first birthday of baby elephant Stella who captured our hearts in 2017. Next time you are at Animal Kingdom, be sure to stop by the Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction and see if you can spot her.  She was welcomed into the world on January 4, 2017 and was the seventh elephant born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Happy Mother’s Day to all you Disney-loving moms out there!  We hope that over the course of the year you have a chance to check out some of these new additions, including the newly born baby zebras, for yourself.
