It feels like yesterday that The Voyage of the Little Mermaid closed its doors. Though we feel like it didn’t get the goodbye it deserved – the attraction was much beloved by those who enjoyed Disney World’s Live Shows coupled with The Little Mermaid fans.
The attraction opened on January 7th, 1992. It was only natural for the show to come about after the success of the 1989 animated classic. Like many similar Disney live shows, it paired actors with puppets on stage. Many of the voice actors who are adored by fans from the original animated classic were brought back to lend their voices to this project as well. According to ‘The Voyage of the Little Mermaid’ disney.fandom.com wiki page, it had its fair share of changes in costume, lighting, scenography, and more for various years – especially leading up to its closure in 2020.
In the spring of 2020, The Voyage of the Little Mermaid remained closed during Covid restrictions, and would never open again to the dismay of its loyal fans. The only way to please their loyal Little Mermaid fans would be to come out with a show that would highlight the fans of the musical. Hopefully, there’s some news around the corner…
In the latest news, The Little Mermaid isn’t leaving Hollywood Studios empty-handed. The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure is headed to Hollywood Studios in Fall 2024! It seems that Ariel simply has more to tell and that her timeless story is ready for a refresh. Prepare for it to make its debut in the Animation Courtyard theater in Fall 2024!
