Let’s go back to the 1940’s when Walt Disney discovered an antique mechanical singing bird in New Orleans, with his curiosity and fascination with three-dimensional animation, Walt took this antique piece back home where he asked his Imagineers for help and together learned how it work laying the groundwork for the audio-animatronic figures we know today.

20 years later in the 1960’s, the very first audio-animatronic known as A-1, debuted at Disneyland and was the pioneer with transforming attractions scenery like in the Jungle Cruise and Mine Train Through Nature’s Wonderland.

Then in 1963, Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room opened with over 200 singing figures making it a significant milestone as the first show to integrate audio-animatronic technology.

Following the use of hydraulics, electric figures were then introduced in experiences such as The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Undersea Adventure and Cars Land. In fact, one of the most remarkable figures to date can be found in Pandora – The World of Avatar. The Shaman of Songs, as seen in Na’vi River Journey, seamlessly blends cutting-edge technology with artistic storytelling. This captivating figure stands nearly 10 feet tall and employs new technologies to imbue her every gesture with fluid energy.

The opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge marked another leap in Audio-Animatronics technology with the introduction of the A-1000 figure platform. This latest generation of figures boasts significant enhancements in range, speed and overall performance.

With the debut of World of Frozen at Hong Kong Disneyland and Zootopia at Shanghai Disney Resort, advancement set new standards in immersive storytelling experiences.

Now, the latest and most advanced audio-animatronic figures yet will debut at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Walt Disney World and Disneyland! We have already seen sneak peeks at these characters like Tiana, Ralphie, Louis and Mama Odie, and can’t wait to see them in action once this attraction open later this year!

Walt Disney Imagineering is constantly pushing the boundaries of creativity and imagination blending art and science like no one else can. I can’t wait to see what’s to come in the next years at Disney Parks, i know is going to be amazing, like everything they do.
