Some people only go to Walt Disney World when visiting Orlando, Florida, others like to visit as many places they can because who knows when they will get the opportunity again. So how do you get from Walt Disney World to other theme parks? I recently went on a trip for work to Orlando, Florida and spent a few days at Disney and the rest of the work trip was at Universal Studios.
I won’t get into which park is better, but let’s just say, I at least tried Universal, but we don’t need a debate and everyone needs to try everything for themselves. To each his own, right?! As I was staying at Universal I ended up still visiting Disney, but to say I had no idea what I was doing is an understatement and I wish I knew these options were available while I was there.
Uber/Lyft
I am from an extremely small town, seriously guys it is so small we don’t actually have Ubers. Yikes, right?! For some of you, an Uber or Lyft is a way of life! For me, the thought of getting into a strangers car scared me to death! But, I bit the bullet and scheduled one. It was actually extremely easy, I ended up using this service several times and it wasn’t too expensive, for a family this is a viable option to use.
So what exactly is Uber or Lyft? It’s a ride service operated through an app on a mobile device like your phone. The drivers ARE subjected to background checks and their vehicles have to be of a certain standard. The drivers I had were friendly and the vehicles were extremely clean. I was happy with it.
To use Uber you will need to download the Uber app and link a credit or debit card which is how you’ll pay for the ride. Your card is charged automatically when you have taken the ride and allows you to add a tip if you would like.
Rental Car
Renting a car is still a very popular option but keep in mind, there are other costs to consider when renting a car, for example, insurance can be expensive. In addition, gas and parking can be costly both on Walt Disney World property and Universal, as well as the other theme parks around Orlando.
Renting a car can be a tricky endeavor, however. There are companies, such as Alamo, where you can pay one price upfront and includes everything, meaning no hidden fees. There are other companies that often request more money when picking up or dropping off the car, causing you to have an extra nightmare added onto your trip you didn’t need. Plus, have you ever driven on Florida highways?! No, thank you. I would rather be a passenger! I prefer Uber or the shuttle offer listed next, which I wish I knew about when I was visiting.
Shuttle Service
Mears Transportation Group is popular transportation used around the Orlando area. The shuttle service offers transportation from Disney or Universal and other theme parks located around Orlando. Booking is easy with Viator. Simply visit Viator.com which provides a convenient and comfortable shuttle service from early morning to late-night roundtrip transportation from any of the Orlando theme parks to Orlando area hotels. I think this will be my next go-to if I ever decide to try Universal again.
