Change is good. So many memories are tied to things at Walt Disney World that it makes it hard to see our favorites go though. This is true of Illuminations: Reflections of Earth. This nighttime spectacular has been a staple of Epcot entertainment since 1999. Dazzling guests along the World Showcase Lagoon, Illuminations blends fireworks, laser lights, the World Showcase Pavilions, iconic music, and a giant floating globe. Wait, what? Yes, a giant floating globe!
Illuminations was designed to remind us that while we are many nations, we are all one. It is a beautiful message and the show is beloved by many Walt Disney World guests. Me included! The only variation over the last twenty years of nightly showings has been the special holiday themed version presented during the Christmas season every year. It’s time to say your goodbyes soon, my friends, because this show (in all its forms) will take its last bow at the end of summer 2019.
The question we all want to know now is, what will be replacing Illuminations: Reflections of Earth? All we know so far is that the creative geniuses behind Disney Live Entertainment are hard at work creating a new nighttime spectacular. With so many plans currently in motions for the total revitalization of Epcot, this should be an epic show! The nighttime spectacular will be joining attractions like the “Guardians of the Galaxy” roller coaster, “Ratatouille” ride in World Showcase, new dining experiences including an out-of-this-world new space themed restaurant, and much more! So don’t give up your favorite spot along the World Showcase Lagoon. Go ahead and stake it out and plan what snacks and beverages you’d like to have ready when you catch this all new, soon to be a tradition, nighttime spectacular!
