Q: Is It Cheaper to Book My Own Vacation, Or to Use a Travel Agent?
A: There’s nothing like a Disney vacation! And there’s so much to think about: resorts, dining, tickets, special events, Memory Maker, etc. But the good news is that whether you choose to plan and book your vacation yourself, or you use a travel agent, the price should be the same. That is, travel agents – reputable ones – should not charge you for their services.
Now, you may be like me, a born planner, and love to plan and have spreadsheets, or reminders on your phone. You may have the time and the patience to either book online or call and sometimes wait on the phone for hours to make resort or dining reservations. And, if so, that’s wonderful! You truly can book your own vacation, start to finish, on your own. Disney offers a website and a phone number for doing so.
If, however, you have small children who need you, or a full-time job, or if planning just isn’t your favorite thing to do. If the thought of sitting on hold on the phone for more than 10 minutes gives you hives, then a travel agent can help you. They’ll take care of all the tedious parts of getting your vacation booked and ready. They’ll do as much or as little as you want them to do. The upside is that they may find out about discounts you aren’t aware of, and they’ll be sure that those discounts get applied to your vacation if at all possible. Travel agents are paid by the vendors (hotels, theme parks, etc), so those costs don’t get passed along to you.
So, there you go! Either way, it shouldn’t cost you more to book your vacation!
P.S. – Right now Disney is offering a Spring 2015 Discount with savings up to 30% on rooms at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels. For full details click here or drop me an email and I can give you a free no obligation quote.
