With many changes recently, the biggest being the end of Disney’s free Magical Express service, many Disney vacationers are wondering if it is really still worth it to stay in a Disney resort. Staying on Disney property definitely does still have its perks, but are they really worth the cost? Let’s look at the perks of staying at a Disney resort.
Convienience
Although Disney’s Magical Express shuttle service is no longer available, there are still multiple ways to get to all of the Disney Resorts from the Orlando airport. Some of these new shuttle services only transport guests to and from Disney resorts, so transportation options may be limited when staying off Disney property. The convenience of having Disney transportation to and from the parks is also a huge bonus. Some other non-Disney resorts do offer shuttle service to the parks, but may not be as efficient and frequent as the buses at Disney resorts. Some Disney hotels even have other transportation options such as monorail or water taxis. When it comes to convenience, staying on Disney property wins.
Lightning Lane Purchases
Disney hotel guests are able to make their first Individual Lightning Lane selection at 7 am, while guests staying off property have to wait until park opening. While this may not seem like a huge perk, rides like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Flight of Passage can fill up very quickly. So if there is a must-do attraction for your family that is included with Individual Lightning Lane, you may really appreciate the ability to make the early selection. Of course, guests are always welcome to wait in the standby line as well.
Early Theme Park Entry
As part of Disney’s ongoing 50th-anniversary celebration, guests staying at Disney resorts can take advantage of a 30-minute early entry into Walt Disney World theme parks every day. During this early entry period, select attractions, food, and beverage locations will be open and operating.
Extended Evening Theme Park Hours
Guests of Deluxe resorts will also be able to enjoy extended evening hours in select theme parks.
Staying IN the Magic!
Of course, nothing really beats staying right in the magic! Some Disney hotels are beautifully themed, and all of them have the top-notch customer service that Disney is known for. There is just something magical about staying right in the magic on Disney property.
Of course, as perks such as Magical Express are taken away, and prices for pretty much everything (including resort stays) continue to rise, guests do start looking for other options. There is nothing wrong with staying off-property, or even at a Disney “good neighbor” resort!
