There are so many fun new attractions getting ready to debut in Walt Disney World in the coming years. Here is a wrap up to get you excited for your future trip to the Mouse!
Epcot
“Guardians of the Galaxy” Attraction
Are you ready to jam out with the Star-Lord? “Guardians of the Galaxy” is coming to life at Epcot.
According to Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products Chairman Bob Chapek, building an adventure this big will require a ride system and ride vehicles, unlike anything our guests have experienced before. Guests will encounter a one-of-a-kind storytelling coaster that connects the adventure of a storyline with the thrills of a coaster.
“On most coasters, the vehicles point straight ahead throughout the ride,” Bob explained. “But on this attraction, each individual cab will be programmed to direct your eye to the story happening around you. That means instead of whizzing by the action, you’ll be fully immersed in the story from the minute you launch.”
The attraction will be one of the world’s longest enclosed roller coasters when it opens in Future World at Epcot. Earlier this year, 960 trucks’ worth of concrete poured the foundation of this mammoth attraction. This will all be housed inside a building so large that the volume of four Spaceship Earth attractions could fit inside it! The attraction will open in time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort in 2021.
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
Part of Epcot’s renovation will include Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure! In the France Pavilion, you will virtually shrink to the size of French cuisine’s most famous rat! As Remy, you will scurry to safety across the kitchen of Gusteau’s legendary Parisian restaurant. This fun new attraction is set to open just in time for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort in 2021!

Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
One of the most highly-anticipated attractions coming to Disney theme parks is Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway! This ride based on the Mickey shorts will debut in Spring of 2020 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It will then arrive at Disneyland’s Mickey’s Toontown in 2022!.
The attraction will totally immerse guests in a cartoon world and will feature a new catchy theme song created especially for the attraction.
The fun begins when you see the premiere of a new cartoon short with Mickey and Minnie preparing for a picnic. As they head out, they drive alongside a train and find out that the engineer is Goofy. Then, one magical moment lets you step into the movie and on Goofy’s train for a wacky, wild ride.
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set to open August 29 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida.
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will let you climb into the cockpit of “the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy” to take control of the ship, acting in one of three roles: pilot, flight engineer, or gunner. This attraction is set to open when the new land opens.
“Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is a level of guest participation in a ride that we haven’t done,” says Robin Reardon, portfolio executive producer, Walt Disney Imagineering. “When you step into that cockpit as the only flight crew of the only Millennium Falcon for the day that’s going on that mission, that’s a pretty amazing leap in terms of storytelling from the very beginning. And the payoff and participatory nature of the experience are, so far, unparalleled.”
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
The second attraction, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, is set to open in phase two, a little later in the year. As new Resistance recruits, you will join a climactic battle against the First Order, including a run-in with Kylo Ren. Their journey will take you inside a full-size starship and aboard a nearby Star Destroyer.
Disney Imagineers worked with Lucasfilm Ltd., as well as with directors and producers J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson, to maximize the experience. “It’s more than just a ride,” says John Larena, executive creative director, Walt Disney Imagineering. “It’s a cinematic immersive experience.”
For planning purposes Disney FASTPASS service, including access via Disney MaxPass, (at Disneyland park) and Disney FastPass+ service (at Disney’s Hollywood Studios) will not initially be offered at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (no official word yet on how this will impact Rise of the Resistance). Disney said they will continually evaluate operations and services in order to help provide a great guest experience.

Both Epcot & Hollywood Studios
Disney Skyliner
I know, this is not technically an attraction. But I am super excited to take a ride! Anyone who has visited Disney’s Hollywood Studios recently knows that this new form of transportation is almost ready. Imagineers have been completing test runs and the covers have been removed to reveal the designs. The Disney Skyliner set to open by the end of summer.
This attraction/transportation system marks the return of gondolas to Walt Disney World. You can travel directly from several hotels to theme parks and vice versa. I can’t wait to get a bird’s eye view of the Walt Disney World Resort!
Magic Kingdom
Tron Roller Coaster
Progress is coming along for the TRON attraction. Disney recently celebrated a huge construction milestone for the upcoming TRON attraction. The first steel support columns have been installed!
The steel columns that have since been positioned in the lot next to Space Mountain will serve as the framework to support the TRON coaster’s track.
The TRON coaster in the Magic Kingdom is based on the TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Shanghai Disneyland. The rollercoaster-esque attraction will allow you to board a train of two-wheeled vehicles for a race through the digital frontier.
The TRON attraction is set to open in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021.
