Some of Your Most Common Toy Story Land Questions Answered 1

We are just over 2 months away from the opening of Toy Story Land -June 30th.  As a lot of readers set your sights on a Summer visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, I’m being asked a lot about logistics for this new area of the park.  Here are the answers to a few of your most common questions.

Will there be height restrictions for the new rides and if so what are they? There will be three attractions that make up this new land when it opens: Toy Story Mania, Slinky Dog Dash, and Alien Swirling Saucers.  Here’s a look at the height restrictions for each:

  • Toy Story Mania – Any height
  • Slinky Dog Dash – Must be 38″ or taller to ride
  • Alien Swirling Saucers – Must be 32″ or taller to ride

Will I be able to get FastPasses for the Toy Story Land attractions? Yes. Fastpasses will be available for all three of the attractions listed above.  As you know, Disney’s Hollywood Studios functions on a tiered FastPasses system with two categories.  Guests are able to pick 1 FastPass from category 1 and 2 FastPasses from Category 2.  Disney will be adjusting the tiers for the opening of Toy Story Land and they look like this:

Tier 1 (Pick 1):

  • Slinky Dog Dash
  • Alien Swirling Saucers
  • Toy Story Mani

Tier 2 (Pick 2):

  • Beauty and the Beast-Live on Stage
  • Disney Junior – Live on Stage!
  • Fantasmic!
  • For the First Time in Forever – A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration
  • Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!
  • Muppet*Vision
  • Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith
  • Star Tours – The Adventures Continue
  • The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
  • Voyage of the Little Mermaid

This means that guests will inevitably have to wait in line for some of the attractions at Toy Story Land.  However, the rest of the attractions have all been combined meaning more choices for those who plan on tackling the rest of the park during your visit.

My child will be too short to ride some of the Toy Story Attractions will there be Rider Switch? Yes. For those of you that don’t know, Rider Switch allows families with small children that don’t meet the height requirements to split the family up so that both grown-ups and older kids can ride.  One parent stays with the child that is too small to ride.  The other parent rides with the children that do meet the height requirements.  When the first parent is done enjoying the attraction, they swap with the other parent who will then have a chance to ride. This service will be offered on both Alien Swirling Saucers and Slinky Dog Dash.  To find out more on how Rider Switch works check out this article.

What is the accessibility like for each of the rides in Toy Story Land? Here’s a look at the accessibility for guests with wheelchairs/ECVs

  • Toy Story Mania – Must transfer from wheelchair/ECV,  Audio description, video captioning.
  • Slinky Dog Dash – Must transfer to standard wheelchair and then to ride vehicle.
  • Alien Swirling Saucers – Must transfer from wheelchair/ECV

Will Hollywood Studios be having longer park hours once Toy Story Land opens? Yes! We saw this when Pandora opened over at Animal Kingdom last Memorial Day.  Hollywood Studios will extend its operating hours beginning July 1st. It will be open from 8:00 – 10:30pm.  Onsite guests will also be able to take part in Extra Magic Hours allowing you early or late night access to these popular attractions.

Will we be able to meet any of the characters from Toy Story? Yes. Guests will have the chance to meet Buzz Lightyear, Woody and Jessie.  Each of the characters will be seen greeting guests throughout Toy Story Land each day.

Will there be a character dining option with Toy Story Characters? I’ve been asked this question a lot this week and at the moment the answer is No.  Disney has not announced any plans to offer a Character Dining Experience at Toy Story Land.  Woody’s Lunch Box, which is opening as part of the expansion will offer fun and nostalgic Quick Service bites for hungry visitors.  However, Toy character dining is typically reserved for Table Service locations.  For a list of character dining options at Hollywood Studios check out this article.
