Everything we Know About the Test Track Update Coming to EPCOT

A guest-favorite attraction in Epcot will soon undergo a big refurbishment! Test Track has received updates and refurbs in the past but we don’t know exactly what will be happening to the ride this time. Here’s everything we DO know.

During the biannual Destination D23 fan event in September 2023, Disney revealed plans for another comprehensive makeover of Test Track. With GM’s sponsorship playing a significant role, Test Track is set to undergo a transformation, earning it the moniker “Test Track 3.0.” What exciting changes will this renovation bring?

At present, details remain elusive. Our only available information comprises the provided image and a brief paragraph description: “Imagineers along with teams from Chevrolet are reaching back into history for inspiration – from the original World of Motion – and bringing that spirit of optimism to the next iteration of the Test Track attraction!”

The concept art strongly indicates a departure from both the industrial warehouse ambiance and the digital TRON aesthetic seen in previous versions. The depicted scene, possibly the “switchbacks” or the Responsiveness test, depending on one’s preferred version of the ride, has evolved from plywood trees (in TT 1.0) to laser trees (in TT 2.0) and now features real trees. This suggests a shift towards dimensional dark ride scenes in the upcoming version. The exact nature of these changes remains to be unveiled.
