What Are the Best Walt Disney World Resorts for Young Children?

When traveling with small children, this is definitely an important question to ask. I am a firm believer that a vacation to Walt Disney World can be done at any age, whether newborn or retired! However, in my opinion, there are definitely some important factors to consider when choosing where to stay because some resorts may fit your needs better than others.

So, how do you decide? Well, I always recommend thinking about what is most important to you. Different resorts have slightly different amenities but all are great! It does depend on how you plan to spend your vacation. How old are your kids? Do you want a “non-park day” during your resort stay? Do you plan to take breaks during the day? What is your vacation budget?

If you are looking for budget-friendly options that will allow you to have in-your-face Disney theming, I recommend Disney’s Art of Animation or Disney’s All-Star Movies Resorts. These resorts are both in the value category. They have all of the benefits of staying at the Walt Disney World Resort and work well for families on a budget. The theming at these and all the value resorts is fun and features characters that little ones will recognize from movies such as The Lion King, Cars, and Finding Nemo. If these characters are favorites in your family, your little ones will likely be in awe as you explore these resorts with the larger than life Disney theming and statues. If you have a larger family or group, Disney’s Art of Animation has suites that offer two bathrooms and room for up to 6 adults. In addition, the Disney Skyliner is expected to open later in 2019 and one of the stops for this new method of transportation is between Disney’s Art of Animation and Disney’s Pop Century Resorts.

If you are looking for additional amenities including proximity to the parks, then you may want to consider one of the Disney Deluxe Resorts for your vacation. While there is a higher price tag at these resorts, the value and convenience are definitely there too! Let’s face it, when you are traveling with little ones, meltdowns happen. The most magical place on Earth can also be overwhelming for little people and sometimes, you just need a break! Whether you return for a nap or to relax at the pool, you cannot beat being able to walk back to your resort or hopping on the monorail. For these reasons, I love staying at the monorail resorts or in the Boardwalk area. My personal favorites are Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The first is a quick walk away from EPCOT and the other is a quick ride or walk to the Magic Kingdom. If your little ones are anything like mine, they will be fascinated by the monorail ride in general. My kids think it is especially fun that the monorail goes right through the resort!

If you find that you are looking for a resort in the moderate category, there are several great options as well. Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter are sister resorts and you can use the amenities at both resorts. This is a favorite of mine because the pool area is great and while the resort is large, and spread out, it is still kid-friendly. In regards to theme, the Disney touches here are subtle compared to the large character statues and theming at the value resorts, but if you have a little one who loves princesses, the Royal Guest Rooms are a must-see!

So, to recap, one of the most important decisions you can make when traveling to Walt Disney World with young kids is where you stay. To decide, you may want to ask yourself:

What is my budget?
What amenities are important to me?
What will work best with my kids?

Figuring out these answers will give you a starting point and then there are definitely options for everyone. All of the resort options at Walt Disney World are great when traveling with little ones. You will get the added benefits of Disney transportation, and everything that comes with your vacation package. Regardless of whether you decide to walk back to the Contemporary or hop on a bus and go explore all that Art of Animation has to offer, families with small children will find something that works for them to have a magical vacation!
