Humming Star Wars theme: “Duuh Duuh Duuh da da da Duuh Duuh da da da Duuh Duuh dun-dun-dun-duuuuh…”
The anticipation is mounting!
The big question that everyone wants to know, when is Star Wars Land opening in Walt Disney World and in Disneyland? There are two types of travelers who want to know this information: those who want to make sure they go before the opening to beat the crowds and those who want to go and experience the new land. Which are you?
The official opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland in California is Summer 2019, and late Fall 2019 in Walt Disney World, Florida. Summer and Fall are broad timeframes, which leaves a ton of speculation as to when each land will actually open.
There has been speculation that Star Wars land in Disneyland will open after their current promotion expires. They want guests to visit before the new land opens. The current Disneyland Resort theme park ticket promotion expires May 23, 2019. Plus, Bob Iger might have accidentally given a hint that Disneyland Star Wars land will open in June 2019 in a Barrons’ online news article earlier this month.
If we use this same logic for Walt Disney World, we can guestimate that Star Wars land will open in October 2019. Their current vacation promotion expires September 30, 2019. Fall season technically goes until December 21! But my guess is that it will actually be closer to the end of November. Again, these are all just educated guesses.
To build even more anticipation, Disney will be launching a new Marvel Comic series that will give more back story to this incredible land! A must for any Star Wars fan! Plus, the movie Star Wars Episode IX will be released December 20th, 2019!
Disneyland: What We Know For Sure
Disney announced that there would be a new land opening in Disneyland Park back in August of 2015. When we were there in Feb 2016, walls had gone up and construction had begun.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has been described as an immersive new land where visitors are transported to Black Spire Outpost, the largest village on the planet Batuu. This is a thriving port for rogue traders, smugglers, and adventurers. Three entrances into the new land have been established in Critter Country, Frontierland, and Fantasyland.
The name of the land, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was released in July 2017 and the names of the 2 ride attractions were released in November 2018: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
Guests will get to pilot the Millennium Falcon through Hyperspace. You will want to ride this attraction multiple times because each experience will be different! Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance you will get to experience a battle between the First Order and the Resistance in a 6-person dark ride trackless adventure. With this ride, there is optional interactive integration with the Play Disney Parks app! Disney says this is their most epic attraction yet!
When you get hungry you can stop in Oga’s Cantina for themed food, such as blue milk! This will be a smaller, more intimate setting with a few booths and majority standing room. One thing that makes this Cantina special is that it will be the only place in Disneyland Park where adults 21 and older can get an alcoholic beverage! You have to enjoy your drink in the Cantina as you cannot wander around the park with it.
Of course, there will be plenty of shopping opportunities for all of you Padawans to get your hands on unique Star Wars merchandise.
Until the new land opens, Launch Bay in Tomorrowland has a model of the land set up as well as a short promotional video showing the future of the new land. Make sure to stop by and get your photo taken with Darth Vader and Kylo Ren.
Walt Disney World: What We Know For Sure
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be very similar (maybe a clone) to the one being built in Disneyland Park. Fans will be flocking to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to immerse themselves in the largest single themed land expansion ever! Star Wars will come to life in these 14 acres.
For now, when you visit Toy Story Land make sure to peek over the wall and you’ll see what Disney has in store 🙂
Unique to Walt Disney World will be a Star Wars themed hotel located next to the land itself. This isn’t your regular hotel, it has been described as a groundbreaking Star War Experience! This hotel will have as few as 68 rooms and guests will be a part of a 2-day immersive experience complete with high-end dining. This luxury resort is planned to open in 2021.
Disneyland Paris: What We Know For Sure
A new Star Wars area was announced in February 2018. Not much information has been released except it will be rolled out in phases starting in 2021.
Check out the most recent video Disney released about Star War: Galaxy’s Edge; it is epic!
Whether you are a Star Wars Fan or not, Disney will be forever changed with these new additions to their parks! I can’t wait!
