Question: What are Hidden Mickeys and Where Can I Find Them?
Answer: What started off as an inside joke among the Disney Imagineers, has taken the “World” by storm and people spend their days hunting these figures all through the parks and resorts. And even in their everyday lives! A Hidden Mickey is a likeness of Mickey Mouse hidden in the design of an attraction, resort decor, etc, consisting of a silhouette of Mickey’s head and ears.
You can find Hidden Mickeys EVERYWHERE. Some of the best places to look for these are in the carpet, wallpaper, and bedspreads at your resort, lines for your favorite attractions, and even in the sidewalks. Steve Barrett, also known as the “Hidden Mickey Guy” has been searching high and low since the 1990s and compiling a list of his findings. He has written numerous books and had apps created to assist park guests in finding Hidden Mickeys. On our last trip to Walt Disney World, my husband downloaded the app to his phone and tried to find as many of these gems as he could. Needless to say, he slowed us down because he was searching all day, but, it was a lot of fun when we found them, because they really were “hidden” and you wouldn’t have probably known they were there unless you were looking for them.
And Hidden Mickeys are not just limited to Disney parks and resorts. If you keep your eyes open, you can actually find a bunch in your favorite Disney movies. As you are watching Peter Pan next time, take note of the Darling home in London and the trees out front. You may be able to see a Hidden Mickey in the cluster!
Hidden Mickey searching is a great way to keep kids entertained while waiting in line for attractions. You never know what you will find, or, what your imagination will let you find.
