Well, it is officially 2022 and that means Disney’s Magical Express free shuttle service is a thing of the past. Although Disney did choose to extend the return service until January 10, that is now over too. This means guests needing transportation to and from Orlando International Airport will now have to find an alternative. Although none of them are complimentary, there are multiple options to get to and from Walt Disney World Resort from the airport. Let’s explore all of the options.
Mears Connect
Almost immediately when we heard Disney was terminating the Magical Express service it was announced that Mears Connect would be “replacing” it. The signage at the airport and at multiple Walt Disney World resort hotels has already been changed to facilitate this replacement. Mears transportation services cost $16 per adult and $13.50 per child for one-way transportation. Round trip transportation runs $32 per adult and $27 per child. Mears also offers an Express service, which is a more luxurious service with much less waiting and it just so happens that Mears has already raised the price of that service to $250 for round trip service for up to 4 passengers, with each additional passenger costing $55.
The Sunshine Flyer
To offer a little friendly competition, The Friendly Flyer shuttle service will be offering services with very competitive rates to Mears Connect. The prices for these services will be $17 per adult one-way and $12.50 per child one-way with round-trip options for $34 per adult and $25 per child. This service will start on February 1, 2022.
Ride Share or Taxi
Of course, another alternative to Disney’s Magical Express is a traditional Taxi or a ride share service using an app such as Uber or Lyft. Click here to compare prices of Uber and Lyft to the Mears Connect service.
Car Rental
Of course renting a car is always an option while on vacation, but take into consideration the fees you will have to pay for parking at both your resort hotel and at the parks if you choose to drive yourself. The cost of car rental has risen exponentially within the past few years and may not be a very budget friendly alternative.
While we are all sad to see Disney’s Magical Express services come to an end, there are other options.
