what is in a stateroom

I’m embarking on my first Disney Cruise!  What can I expect to find in my stateroom?

The Disney Cruise Line prides itself on having top notch accommodations.  There will be a TV in your room, offering limited programming.  For live TV, you can expect to find the Disney Channel, ABC and ESPN, plus a 24-hour news channel (CNN).  If you are traveling on the Disney Dream or Disney Fantasy, a HUGE variety of Disney movies and a few other family-friendly titles can be found, on-demand, for no additional fee.  On the Disney Wonder and Disney Magic, there are multiple channels with different themes featuring loops of Disney movies and shorts.  You can get a list of what’s on each of these channels at Guest Services.

Disney will also provide Wave Phones in your room.  These cellular-style phones are able to be carried throughout the ship to stay in touch with other members of your family.  There will be two phones in each regular stateroom and one charger.  On the concierge level, you will find four phones and two chargers.  Be sure to charge your phones regularly to avoid the dreaded “beep” as the battery begins to die!

The Disney Dream, Fantasy, Magic and most of the rooms on the Wonder have a small refrigerator in each room.  Some rooms on the Disney Wonder have a “beverage cooler” which is like an underpowered refrigerator and may not get extremely cold.  If you happen to get one of these and need a real refrigerator to keep medicine cold (or something similar), you can ask for a real refrigerator or put a bucket or ziploc bag of ice in the cooler to help keep it colder.  If you have any questions or concerns about this while on board, your stateroom attendant will be able to help you out!

You will not find an iron in the stateroom, due to fire codes, but, there are irons for use in the laundry rooms.  Laundry facilities are also available onboard and you can charge the cost of self-service laundry to your room key with a swipe through the readers on the washers and dryers.

If you are booked in an Inside Stateroom, there will not be any windows, with the exception of rooms on the Wonder and Magic that have “secret portholes”.  The Dream and Fantasy feature “virtual portholes” that provide some light and can be turned off with a switch by the bed.  Keep in mind that Inside Staterooms typically have no external light (especially when that virtual porthole is turned off) so if you are used to light coming in during the morning to wake you, be sure to set an alarm or request a wake-up call.  Those dark rooms might make you oversleep!!

On the Disney Wonder, hair dryers are attached to the wall in the bathroom.  They are not very powerful and tend to get very hot.  If you are like me and have a lot of hair to dry, I recommend brining along your own hair dryer.  The Disney Magic, Dream and Fantasy all have a hair dryer which will be found in a bag in the bathroom or desk drawer.  It MUST be plugged into a dedicated outlet at the desk.

Disney makes sure to keep their staterooms functional so families have a smooth time at sea!  If you have questions or if you would like to learn more about Disney Cruise Line itineraries and pricing, email me at tricia@worldofmagictravel.com.  I’m happy to help your family with your upcoming nautical adventure!  And be sure to follow me on Facebook to keep up with the latest Disney news, updates and promotions.  Happy Sailing!
