50th Anniversary

In 2021 Walt Disney World will celebrate its 50th anniversary and we absolutely cannot wait! Things around the resort are gearing up to make it the most spectacular celebration in the resort’s history! In each and every park there are new and exciting things to look forward to:

Magic Kingdom:

Tron Light Cycle – The resort’s flagship park is getting a brand new headliner thrill ride just in time for its birthday! to open in 2021 (though no official opening date has been released by Disney yet) this futuristic coaster is sure to deliver some much-needed excitement. While we love Tomorrowland, it’s impossible to deny that it seems more retro than futuristic at this point. We think Tron Light Cycle could be just the breath of fresh air Tomorrowland has been needing.

Peter Pan Update – The much beloved Peter Pan’s Flight is an original attraction to the Magic Kingdom. Early next year it will close for a month-long refurbishment where we expect it will get some of the same “extra TLC” that its Disneyland counterpart got in preparation for the park’s Diamond anniversary.

EPCOT:

Ratatouille Ride A fan favorite at Disneyland Paris is finally coming stateside! The World Showcase has long been criticized for its lack of rides. 2020 will help put those concerns to rest when the ride is expected to open. The ride is currently under construction in the France Pavilion and is reported to be a clone of the Paris version.

Guardians of the Galaxy Rollercoaster News broke of this ride to the mixed reception. Some love the idea of a brand new thrill ride at Epcot, others question its place in the park. We, however, cannot wait to give it a whirl. We just hope the mixtape makes it into the ride’s soundtrack!

Tron

Future World Facelift- When Epcot opened in 1982 Future World felt innovative and bright and new. The concept art released at the D23 Convention in 2017 shows that Epcot will hold true to that same shiny futuristic feel that it had when it first opened.

Blue sky

Space Themed Restaurant- Epcot has long been revered for its excellent food choices. Soon, however, the options are going to be truly out of this world! A space themed restaurant will be opened near Mission: Space. Few details of Epcot’s newest restaurant are known for sure but the concept art looks amazing! We can’t wait to book reservations when it opens.

A New Pavilion? -Rumors have been swirling about the addition of a new country to the World Showcase for years. Recent activities at Epcot seem to point to those rumors being a very real possibility. Though Disney has neither confirmed or denied these rumors, we expect if there is going to be a major addition in that part of the Park, the 50th-anniversary celebration would be the perfect time

Hollywood Studios:

Star Wars: Galaxies Edge- Perhaps one of the most anticipated expansions in resort history, Star Wars Galaxies Edge will open at Hollywood Studios in the fall of 2019. The highly themed area promises to be an immersive experience unlike anything guests have ever experienced. With two new rides, two restaurants, and more, Star Wars: Galaxies Edge is certainly the update we are most looking forward to!

Mickey and Minnies Runaway Railway- It’s hard to believe that in 50 years, Walt Disney World has never had a Mickey Mouse themed ride, but it’s true. In late 2019, however, that will change. Last year the Great Movie Ride closed and construction began on Runaway Railway. The ride will feature some impressive innovation including reckless computer controlled cars and promises to put you right in the middle of a Mickey Mouse Cartoon. For that reason, we are absolutely beside ourselves with anticipation to experience Mickeys very first ride!

Animal Kingdom:

Rafiki’s Planet Watch- Not long ago fans of Animal Kingdom were stunned by the news that this area would be closing. We weren’t heartbroken for long, however, Disney quickly announced its plans to reimagine and reopen Rafiki’s Planet Watch sometime in 2019. We can’t wait to see how they enhance the area!

With so many projects going on, it can be hard to pinpoint exactly which we are most. looking forward to (the answer is usually “the one we are talking about at the moment!”). But one thing is for sure: 2021 will be one of the most exciting times to be at Walt Disney World Resort since the resort opened in 1971 and we definitely plan on being a part of the celebration. Will you be planning a visit in 2021?
