The Lunar New Year is also known as the Spring Festival in many Asian cultures. It is a time to honor deities and ancestors, when families gather to celebrate each other. Before the holiday begins, families clean the house to sweep out the bad luck of the previous year to make space for all the good luck to come. Firecrackers and fireworks chase away evil spirits. Red is an auspicious color. Red lanterns are hung outside the home. Red envelopes containing money are given as gifts. People wear red during the holiday to scare away bad fortune. Lion and dragon dances delight old and young alike.
All guests are welcome! Stop by the Paradise Gardens in Disney’s California Adventure to ring in the year of the monkey and celebrate this time honored festival.
