5 Things We Learned About Disney's Star Wars Land 1

Can’t get enough Star Wars? Don’t worry; Disney’s got you covered! Yesterday at Disney’s D23 Expo, fans were greeted with news of galactic proportions, including that of the new Star Wars land slated to open in Disneyland and Disney World in 2019. Here are 5 things we know about this out-of-this-world announcement:

1. Think BIG

The new Star Wars themed land has officially been named Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. At 14 acres, this land promises to be immersive for guests. Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, announced yesterday that visitors can expect to feel as though they’ve been transported to a remote trading port on the edge of space. This brand new planet has not been featured in any Star Wars films; however, Chris Beaty, Disney Imagineer and executive director of the new expansions, described it as a “smuggler’s planet” where some of Star Wars most famous characters will interact with new members of the galaxy. Expect Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to be filled with Disney magic. This new land will first open in Disneyland followed by an identical version opening in Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. 2. New Attractions

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will focus on two brand new attractions. The first experience will put guests in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Guests will feel as though they are on a Star Destroyer inside a hangar bay. The second experience will allow guests to take control of the Millennium Falcon, the well-known spacecraft from the Star Wars films. As guests pilot the ship, they will be faced with completing an important mission. If successful, they will earn extra galactic credits. If unsuccessful, guests might just end up on the list of a bounty hunter. Disney promises that these attractions will be created on a newer, larger scale and focus on the guests’ experience.

3. Star Wars Character Meet-and-Greets

Guests can expect to meet their favorite Star Wars characters including BB-8, Chewbacca, and members of the First Order. You might also be reunited with Rex, the troublesome droid that fans may remember from Star Tours, who will serve as DJ of the local cantina.

4. Eat and Shop

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will include new eats for guests to enjoy. For instance, Disney hinted at imaginative menu items like “blue milk.” There’s also sure to be lots of shopping opportunities. These shops will feature unique items and keepsakes that guests can bring back to Earth as mementos of their time at Galaxy’s Edge.

5. Star Wars Themed Resort

If Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge isn’t exciting enough, Disney announced that a new Star Wars inspired resort is headed to Walt Disney World! Bob Chapek shared that this resort is part of the “Disney 360 vacation concept.” Guests can expect to become a part of the Star Wars story; they’ll even don Star Wars attire! This fully immersive experience will even feature images of space that are projected outside of the windows. Chapek promises that this experience will “touch every minute of your day.” This definitely sounds like home for the ultimate Star Wars fan!

More news is sure to come in the upcoming months. In the meantime, guests can begin counting down the days until 2019 as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is sure to be spectacular!
