Okay okay, there are a LOT of musicals on Disney+. A lot. Some of your favorite Disney films have sone of the best soundtracks of all times, but we will be highlighting some broadway favorites in this article!
- The Sound of Music (1965)
- Feel free to sing along if you know the words! The Sound of Music – arguably one of the most important musicals of all time, is available on Disney+, for all ages to enjoy! This film has everything a good musical should. Mountaintop swirling, the turmoil of an ongoing war, romance, singing, more singing, and of course – Julie Andrews! Snuggle up for the night and enjoy everything this timeless film still has to offer.
- Hello, Dolly! (1969)
- Barbara Streisand is on Disney+ and nothing will be the same. The classic and ever so important Hello, Dolly! is a Music Theater lovers’ dream. Follow this matchmaker as she gets entangled in the love lives of others. Add music to that – and you’ve got a hit!
- Annie (1999)
- Lately, it feels like the sun will never come out – but Annie is here to remind you that it actually will… tomorrow. This 1999 adaptation is available and is a great way to introduce your child to the vast and talented world of musicals
- High School Musical (2006)
- What was just expected to be a simple Disney film has expanded. Sequels and offshoots have all been a success but if you feel out of the loop, this is where you should start.
- Disney’s Newsies: The Broadway Musical (2017)
- You can watch the 1992 version of Newsies on Disney+ if you are fonder of that adaptation – but give the 2017, live-0n-stage version a try!
- Hamilton (2020)
- Alexander Hamilton – we’ve been waiting in the wings for you! It is almost impossible not to be drawn in by this lyrical masterpiece that Disney has acquired. Lin Manuel Miranda shines of course but every member of this ensemble complements each other. Harmonies, clever jokes, and a musical that almost never stops singing. Literally, simple sentences are transformed into powerful and catchy tunes you won’t be able to forget.
