Iron Man Takes the Helm: Robert Downey Jr. Named Godparent of the Disney Adventure

Move over, maritime tradition, Tony Stark is officially coming to the high seas! Disney just dropped the news that the one and only Robert Downey Jr. has been named the official godparent of the Disney Adventure. This isn’t just any boat, either; it’s the massive new crown jewel of the Disney Cruise Line fleet, set to start its journey out of Singapore next month. Honestly, if you’re launching a ship this big, you might as well get the guy who saved the universe to give it a proper blessing.

Josh D’Amaro, the head of Disney Experiences, pointed out that RDJ basically built the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it. It makes total sense, who else has the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist energy required to launch a mega-ship? Downey himself sounded pretty pumped (and a little intimidated) about the gig, calling the ship majestic and joking that since it’s the largest in the fleet, it’s going to need a gargantuan blessing.

The ship itself sounds like a Marvel fan’s fever dream. We’re talking about Marvel Landing, which features the Ironcycle Test Run, literally the first roller coaster on a Disney ship and the longest one at sea. If that’s too much adrenaline for you, there’s also a live Avengers Assemble! show in the garden area with stunts that’ll probably make you drop your Mickey premium bar. Plus, the kids get to hang out in the Marvel WEB Workshop, which is basically a high-tech training ground for future Avengers.

But it’s not all capes and shields. The Disney Adventure is leaning hard into its Singapore home port with over 20 dining spots featuring world-class Asian-inspired cuisine. Between the Broadway-style shows and the themed staterooms, it’s basically a floating city of storytelling. Having an official Disney Legend like RDJ kick things off is the ultimate flex. Now we just have to wait and see if he brings that same energy when he pivots from Iron Man to Doctor Doom later this year!
