How to Get Galactic Hero on Updated Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
Listen up, Space Rangers! If you’re like me and take the title of “Galactic Hero” more seriously than a meeting with Star Command, you know that hitting that 999,999 score is the ultimate bragging right. So do you want to know the ins and outs of the newly enhanced Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom? Then follow along! The classic mission we love is still there, but with some high-tech upgrades, it’s a whole new ballgame. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a fresh recruit, it’s time to stretch those clicking fingers and get your game face on.

The first thing you’ll notice is that the training wheels are officially off. Before you even get into the heat of battle, you’re greeted by Buddy, a brand-new support robot created by WDI and Pixar. Buddy is there to help you prep, and he’s actually the perfect opportunity to get a feel for the new hardware. The Star Cruisers have been decked out with sleek new colors and, most importantly, onboard video monitors that show your score in real-time. But the real MVP move? The blasters are now handheld and feature always-on lasers. No more guessing where your red dot is in a room full of chaos! You’ll also notice two distinct blaster colors (red or green) per cruiser, so you finally know for sure if you hit the target or if your partner is just stealing your thunder.

If you’re hunting for the big points, you’ve got to play it smart and aim for the distance. It’s a simple rule of thumb: the harder the shot, the bigger the payout. The targets themselves have been upgraded with tech that gives you instant feedback when you nail them. I’m not gonna lie, after a few rounds of intense aiming, your arm might start feeling it, kind of like those epic Toy Story Mania! battles over at Hollywood Studios. But hey, no pain, no gain when you’re trying to save the galaxy from the Evil Emperor Zurg, right?

The real secret to skyrocketing your score lies in the new Ring System. While you’re spinning around, keep your eyes peeled for targets with a glowing white outer ring. These bad boys are worth double points until someone hits them. But the Holy Grail of targets is the one with the multicolor ring. This thing is rare, appears at random, and only sticks around for a few seconds. If you manage to snip it, not only do you get a massive points boost, but you trigger a Bonus Mode for everyone nearby! During this time, every target in the scene worth way more than usual. Just watch the ring, it’ll start disappearing counterclockwise when the bonus is about to end, so blast as fast as you can.

One of the coolest changes is that the game now rewards completionists too. It’s not just about hitting the same high-value target over and over anymore (though the classic secret targets are still there if you can find them!). Now, at the end of the mission, you get a special bonus based on how many unique targets you hit throughout the entire ride. This means staying engaged from the moment you leave the loading dock until the very last second. It adds a whole new layer of strategy, do you camp out on one high-value spot, or do you try to tag every single Zurg mark in sight?

At the end of the day, there are now multiple paths to becoming a Galactic Hero. You can go the “Legacy” route by hunting down the old secret spots, the “Hunter” route by chasing those white and multicolor rings, or the “Explorer” route by hitting as many different targets as possible. Personally, we would go for the multicolor target but every path is worthy. So, grab your crew, head to Magic Kingdom, and get ready to level up. To infinity and beyond!
