Imagine being on a trip of a lifetime and you have the opportunity to stay longer than you planned. Dream come true, right?! The big question, how do you make this happen? It is definitely possible to add an extra day while you are at Walt Disney World enjoying your vacation, however, there are some important things you need to know.
Adding an extra day to your theme park tickets.
The Walt Disney World ticket system had recently changed to a Magic Your Way ticket system. With the new system, the more days you add to your Magic Your Way tickets the cheaper the day-to-day rates are on the overall ticket price. This will benefit you if you would like to add an extra day or two to your package, however, you have to do it at the right time or adding a ticket may cost you a lot more!
So how do you do it the right way? First, you must upgrade within 14 days of your theme park ticket’s first use. However, the BIGGEST information to know is that you MUST have entitlements left on your MagicBands in order to be eligible for the upgrade! This is huge to know! If you have no more entitlements left you will be purchasing an extra ticket at full price. So let’s say that you are 3 days into your 5-day park ticket allocation with two days remaining. You would easily be able to tack on an additional day making your ticket now a 6-day ticket rather than a 5. In order to upgrade guests need to stop by the ticket windows at a theme park, a Guest Relations building, or your lobby concierge to add on the additional dates. Important Note! We can not stress enough. You MUST have entitlements left in order to upgrade at the “discounted” price. If you tap your magic band and enter the park on the 5th day of your 5-day park ticket, you have now used up your last entitlement and will be purchasing an extra ticket at full-price.
Upgrading to a Park Hopper or Water Park ticket.
Guests can also upgrade to a park hopper ticket or a water park ticket provided that you meet the conditions outlined above. We must recommend upgrading to a Park Hopper early in your vacation in order to take full advantage of being able to hop from park to park and to get your money worth.
Upgrading to an Annual Pass?
I recently upgraded to an Annual Pass while I was at Walt Disney World. For me, this made sense because I had 3 trips planned for business and a family trip planned. Disney actually recommends purchasing an annual pass if you are planning on visiting Walt Disney World for more than 10 days a year. Upgrading to an annual pass was just as easy as adding a theme park ticket at the Guest Service locations at a theme park. When upgrading, the cast member will take the total value of your ticket already purchased and put it on your annual pass. However, just like the upgrades listed above, you need to at least have one day left in your entitlements in order to make the upgrade.
Important Note! If you are thinking of upgrading from a Magic Your Way Ticket to an Annual Pass and you have the Park Hopper Plus add-on but aren’t planning on getting the Water Park add-on for your Annual Pass, you must use up your Water Park entitlements BEFORE you upgrade from standard tickets to an Annual Pass. Otherwise, you will lose your water park tickets in the upgrade.
