Yes you can!  While you can purchase customized Magic Bands directly from Disney (they have a variety of themes from Star Wars to Frozen), you can also showcase your individual style by personalizing your Magic Bands.  Here are a few examples:

  1. Color the band with nail polish to change the color. With nail polish, you have countless options before you – you can go with glitter, neon, matte, glossy, or even glow-in-the-dark.  You can use nail polish pens to make designs.  You can even use painter’s tape to strategically add straight lines across the band.  When you’re done, add a top coat to seal and you’re good to go.  With this method, I’ve seen slight cracks that develop in the nail polish after extended use, but it’s really so small that I hardly notice them.
  2. Add accessories. There’s many to choose from at your local arts & crafts store.  There are temporary tattoos, rhinestones and sticker pearls, or you can even go fancy with Swarovski crystals.
  3. Combine both accessories and nail polish. Use the nail polish color as a base, and once it dries you can add whatever accessories will fit.  Top it off with the base/top coat to seal – this will prevent the stickers or crystals from falling off.
  4. Turn it into a paracord bracelet. This took me a little while to figure out, but I was eventually able to weave a paracord around the entire Magic Band to make it look like a bracelet.  I even added little trinkets and charms right on the paracord for that extra bit of flair.
Customizing your Magic Bands allow you to display your unique Disney personality!

How will this affect the ability of the Magic Band to turn the Mickey turnstiles green, you ask?  I am happy to report that for our last three trips, we have used all of our personalized Magic Bands with no issues whatsoever.  As long as you know where the Mickey head is located on the bracelet, and you can still match Mickey to Mickey at the turnstiles, you will be fine.  Even the Magic Bands with the crystals right on top of the Mickey Head worked perfectly for us.

Not that we DA’s ever need a reason to plan our next trip to Disney, but here’s one – book your next vacation so you can get started on working on those Magic Bands!  As always, I’m happy to help plan your next vacation at no cost to you!  You can visit my page or send me an email at myrasupetran@worldofmagictravel.com to get started.
