Since 1995, Disney fanatics have had even more choices in Disney entertainment than ever before. That’s because 1995 marked the founding of the Disney Cruise Line. The line boasts a gorgeous fleet of four ships that are reminiscent of luxury ocean liners of days gone by–the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy, the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder. Each of these beautiful ships offers passengers the best in live Disney entertainment, on-board experiences, amazing cuisine and exciting port adventures.

Whether you’ve yet to cruise with Disney or you’re a Disney Cruise Line pro, there are some things to know that can make your first (or next) Disney Cruise experience even more magical!

First, know that Disney cruises aren’t just for kids. The word “Disney” in the cruise ships’ names leads some to believe that sailing without children would be odd. But on the contrary, Disney cruises have something for everyone and at every age. There are definitely special things for the kids to enjoy, but each ship has adults-only areas. Castaway Cay also has lots of adults-only perks that are perfect for singles, couples sailing without their children and more.

Second, if you’re concerned about watching your figure while on your cruise, you’re in luck. Each ship in the Disney fleet has spacious, open fitness centers where you can continue the routine you stick to at home. With all of the amazing food on board, you may find yourself indulging in goodies and scrumptious things you might not eat at home, and at least you won’t feel quite as guilty for all the indulging if you’re able to work out like you do at home!

Next, you might not know it, but the ships hold drawings for spa packages and other gifts from Senses Spa. The drawings take place on the day of embarkation, so don’t miss them! You might win an amazing spa package to enjoy while you’re relaxing aboard ship.

When it comes to food, have no fear! If you travel with picky eaters in your group (or if you are picky yourself), you know that vacations can be tricky when it comes to mealtime. And if you’re a Mom, you know the age-old dilemma of finding something all of your kids will eat. Disney takes the dilemma out of mealtime (and snack time and every time in between). That’s because at each meal, there are more choices in food than you could ever enjoy at one time, and the variety ensures that no one goes hungry! Most Guests return home after a Disney Cruise and feel bored and even sad at the thought of going to the fridge. The food at home just can’t compare with the variety, amount and kinds of food on the ships. So the lesson here? Eat, eat, eat (and then maybe head to the workout rooms)! With complimentary room service, amazing buffets and various quick service options, there’s no reason even the pickiest eaters won’t be able to eat like kings!

One of the most important things to know is this. EAT. THE. ICE. CREAM. Yes, ice cream deserves a section all to itself. If you’re enjoying the pool, be sure to enjoy differenet flavors of ice cream in a cone on the deck. Want to indulge in the privacy of your own stateroom? No worries! All you need to do is call room service and have Mickey ice cream bars delivered straight to your stateroom!

Next, be sure to download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. It will be your best friend, guaranteed! The DCL Navigator app is your one-stop shop for activity schedules, onboard chat, menus, deck plans and more. The app gives Guests the latest, most up-to-date information about their cruise, and it’s right there at your fingertips on your smartphone. Don’t go sailing without it!

Another important tip–please don’t skip the shows! Children need to know that the shows aren’t just for adults, and adults need to know that the shows aren’t just for kids! There are Broadway-style shows onboard that are very much like the ones you enjoy in the parks. The best part is that each ship has a different line-up of shows. And each ship in the fleet has its very own signature performance. See one or see them all, but don’t miss out!

Lastly, don’t miss out on the port adventures. Port adventures can include guided tours, cooking classes on land, exploring an island for the day and more. The adventures or shore excursions can allow you to have experiences that would be near impossible to experience alone, without going on a cruise first. For that reason alone, you don’t want to miss out. Be sure to book at least one port adventure per cruise. You won’t regret it!
