Packing

Ok so truth be told – this post MIGHT be coming from my own current personal experience – as my family and I are getting ready to head to Walt Disney World, and I am DEEP into the packing process – lists upon lists have been made, piles have been made and packed into suitcases, just to be unpacked and repacked….it’s been quite the experience so far, and between this and all my past Disney World experiences, I have some items that might seem a bit random and “off the wall” – but are really essential items to pack when you’re getting ready to head to Disney World:

-Luggage Scale – This is something we just picked up the other day, once we realized we would be checking two LARGE suitcases (filled mostly with snacks for our kid, which you would think are lightweight but NOT so much), found it for $8 at WalMart and it has been really useful in determining just how much we can pack in each bag and stay under the “regular” weight limit for checked bags

Pro Tip: Be sure you check with the airline(s) you will be traveling on to see what the baggage fees might be for checked luggage, and what the weight limit is as well (many charge a TON more if it’s over the initial weight limit)

-External Battery Packs – Obviously you know to charge your cell phones before you head to the Park, but I recommend having a backup of some kind – either an external battery pack, or a battery pack case to help if you happen to run out of battery in the middle of the day. I mean, think about it – you will be using your phone a LOT – taking pictures/videos, checking the Disney World app for ride wait times or to order food – you will want to be sure if the battery runs out, you have a backup on hand

-Ziploc Baggies – I have always been a FIRM believer that Ziploc baggies are one of the most useful tools on the planet. They can hold basically anything, and they also keep things from getting wet – which is the main reason they made my list! I bring along a bunch of them in assorted sizes, and stash my valuables like my wallet/cell phone etc in them when the Florida rain comes (which it WILL at some point during your trip – TRUST ME). They also can be helpful for storing partially eaten snacks, as well as soiled clothing or a spare set of clothes

-Breakfast – This one might seem weird, as everyone knows that Disney World is packed full of amazing places to eat – but one thing I like to do is bring along some oatmeal packets, granola bars, and trail mix – things I can make easily or bring along to have on the bus ride to the Parks in the morning. Not only does this help me save money by bringing my own breakfast, but it saves time too – no need to stop at the Resort Food Court and wait in line for breakfast, then wait while everyone eats breakfast, etc. Portable breakfast = more Park time, and that is something you should definitely get on board with!

-Stroller Straps – This one obviously applies for the younger crowd who will be seeing Walt Disney World from their strollers (lucky them – by the end of the day I know I am wishing for a ride instead of walking all around the Parks!), and as we know – a key to keeping the little ones happy is making sure they have plenty of snacks and drinks. In order to avoid them losing said snacks and drinks (which they tend to do), I recommend investing in some toy or cup straps – something you can attach to their water bottle/sippy cup and their snack cup to keep them anchored to the stroller. Personally, I prefer something like this for cups, and then for snacks, I like a container like this paired with these straps. Keep snacks and drinks secure and close by, and you and your little ones will be happier for it

If you have already packed these items, then you are basically a Disney packing master, and if not – don’t worry, these aren’t items I would have thought I would need either until I actually was at Disney World and was like “jeez I wish I had a way to keep his snack cup from getting lost AGAIN” or “ugh my wallet got wet through the backpack I wish I had put it in a Ziploc baggie”. So if you’re like me, make sure you pack these useful items when you head to Walt Disney World – they are practical and help avoid trip stress!
