Welcome foolish mortals to the Haunted Mansion! Where new updates had started to materialized!
The Haunted Mansion was closed for refurbishment before Disneyland had to close due to the pandemic, now a year later, the park is finally reopening later this month and we can get to see the haunted home improvements the mansion received.
First, outside the mansion you will notice some new landscape details that now adorn the pet cemetery. This location of the haunted mansion represents the stories from beyond the grave of these departed pets.
Once you step inside the mansion, you will notice new embellishments along the portrait hallway, including the return of an old, familiar face, the “April to December” portrait that was one the original ones!
When you get into your doom buggy and go through that hallway you will notice how the young woman in the portrait starts aging before your eyes. Spooky!
The “April to December” portrait was an original changing portrait that featured a beautiful muse with the word “April” written in the top right at her portrait. Upon flashes of lightning in the hallway. April slowly began aging with each new month until she turns into a frightful old lady in December. This portrait was replaced in 2005 but is returning home now!
Even though all these new updates are great, guests are still concern about one particular scene in the attraction, the hanging scene in the stretching room.
Guests think this scene has an association with suicide and lynchings, that’s why they have been asking Disney to change it. “It’s been discussed for sure” said Michele Hobbs who is in charge of the Haunted Mansion refurbishment. “It’s definitely something that we’re thinking about”.
So maybe in the future this scene will have some changes, after all Disney is always trying to update its attractions to keep up with the changes in the world.
For now, you can take a look at this video for a closer look at the new updates coming for the Haunted Mansion:
