I recently wrote about the best places to eat at the Disney Parks and Disney Springs, and you might think that just about covers it – but you’d be wrong. There’s a WHOLE OTHER category of Disney Dining that I still need to talk about – and that’s Walt Disney World Resort Dining! The WDW owned Resorts are home to some of the best restaurants on property, and they are serving up tons of unique and delicious food. So read on for my Top Walt Disney World Resort Dining Spots:
Table Service:
Boma: (pictured) This is a must do on every trip for us – and for a couple of reasons. The main one being the food – It’s served buffet style, and they offer tons of unique items – different cold salads, rice dishes, carved meats, and soups – many of which have an African flair to them (great place to try something new!), and they have an amazing dessert table too (zebra domes anyone?). The atmosphere is also amazing here – it’s located at the gorgeous Animal Kingdom Lodge – so I recommend arriving early to have time to stroll around (inside and out!) to enjoy the theming of the resort itself, and in the restaurant itself, the dark wood and décor is very relaxing and casual, while the tables near the windows look out on the savannah (prime animal spotting seats!)
California Grill: the 15th floor of the Contemporary Resort is home to this upscale dining spot where the wine list is long (and award winning!), and the menu is full of artisan dishes like oak fired filet of beef, seared ahi tuna, and a large assortment of freshly prepared sushi, too. The exhibition kitchen is perfect for foodies to glimpse their entrees being prepared, but that isn’t the only view worth seeing here. The restaurant’s spot at the top of the Contemporary tower makes it the place to be for viewing the Magic Kingdom’s nightly fireworks show – so if you plan ahead and book your dinner at the right time, you can head out onto the observation deck for an up close and personal view of the fireworks
Counter Service:
Landscape Of Flavors: Each Value Resort is home to a large food court style restaurant, and the Art of Animation Resort is where you will find this unique spot. Disney is trying out some different menu options here – and when I stayed here a few years ago, I was pumped to eat here every day – and it did NOT disappoint! Mongolian beef stir fry, fresh naan bread, cheesy pesto bread, veggie burger – there are so many options here, enough for everyone in your family to find something they like! Plenty of kid’s choices too, and a lot of items that are pre-packaged and ready to go (in case you’re in a hurry!)
Captain Cook’s: The Polynesian Resort is one of Disney World’s original hotels, and I love taking the monorail there from the Magic Kingdom so that I can grab a bite at this little spot. They have some great Hawaiian style specialties on the menu – like the Aloha pork sandwich (pulled pork on a pineapple coconut bun!), pulled pork nachos, a Hawaiian flatbread pizza, and fish tacos. Oh – and you can get breakfast here too, and they even serve up the infamous Tonga Toast.
Snacks:
Boardwalk Bakery: For me, there’s nothing better than dessert, and if your sweet tooth is anything like mine, then you’ll want to head over to the Boardwalk Bakery – located at the Boardwalk Inn. And even if you aren’t super into sweets – the scent of baking cakes and cookies is too strong for even the strongest to resist! The bakery case is always full of amazing treats – cheesecake brownies, eclairs, key lime tarts, mickey tarts, cupcakes, cookies, and sticky buns – just to name a few! All of them are prepared fresh daily, and it’s the perfect place to grab a snack and a seat on the boardwalk to people watch
I will be the first to admit that come lunch or dinnertime, it’s usually easier to just grab a bite while at the Parks, but I gotta say – these dining spots are well worth the trip to the Disney Resorts! What about you – Where do YOU love to eat the WDW Resort Hotels?
