Happy Father’s Day! Including those from the Animal Kingdom like the Flamingos!
Everytime we visit a Disney Park, specially Animal Kingdom, we see families of animals walking around through the savanna or swimming in the lakes. But did you know flamingos are one of the world’s best dads?
Recently, there have been dozens of recent hatchlings at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Loge and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park, so these fathers are flocking to their families every need.
Flamingo fathers construct the nest, incubate the eggs, and defend their chicks and nests from predators, they also help feed the chicks by producing crop milk just like the moms do! Interesting right?
In case you didn’t know, crop milk is the sole source of nourishment for young flamingo chicks and is secreted by mom and dad from the upper digestive tract. Crop milk is also higher in fat and protein than normal mammal milk.
