Question: At any time have the Walt Disney World Parks had to close their doors early, or shut down completely?
Answer: It’s unbelievable that in 43 years, the Walt Disney world theme parks have only closed down a handful of times! But yes, unfortunately there were a few instances that the Parks have closed.
Since opening day, October 1, 1971, the Disney Parks have been closed temporarily because of five hurricanes: Floyd (1999), Frances (2004), Charley (2004 category 4) , Jeanne (2004), and Wilma (2005 category 5, same year as Katrina).
It was also closed from mid afternoon September 11, 2001 to September 12, 2001 due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Little bit of trivia for my fellow Disney Addicts: In 2013, the park hosted 18.58 million visitors, making it the most visited theme park in the world for the fifth consecutive year! Go WDW!
