Disney World on Property

When you decide it’s time to take a Walt Disney World Vacation, you have a lot of other decisions ahead of you too – there are tons of options for everything at Walt Disney World – from where to eat, what rides to ride, and one of the most important ones in my book – figuring out whether or not to stay on property. The Orlando area is home to hundreds of different hotels – with something in any and every price point and level of service available – from budget-friendly to incredibly luxurious. Not only that – but Walt Disney World itself is home to dozens of on-site Resort Hotels to choose from. So really it comes down to location, location, location – should you choose to stay within the Disney World? Well, here are some things to consider:

PROS Of Staying On Property: When you stay at one of Walt Disney World’s Resort Hotels, you are getting a LOT of perks that include:

A Wide Range of Choices –  when it comes to the hotels themselves – since there are so many, you can really pick the one that is best for you and your family. Disney offers Value, Moderate and Deluxe price level.  Each Hotel has an amazing theme with wonderful Disney touches carried out throughout the rooms, walkways and communal areas.

Extra Magic Hours: This is probably my favorite perk of staying at a Disney Resort – the fact that each day a different Disney Theme Park stays open an hour later or opens an hour earlier exclusively for their Resort guests only. That’s right – beat the lines to your favorite rides, or stay late and enjoy the twinkling post-firework lights of the Castle.

Transportation – Once you arrive at the Orlando airport – your Walt Disney World trip begins! You head right over to the Magical Express shuttle area where you are greeted by a friendly, smiling cast member – who will direct you to the correct shuttle that will take you right to your Disney Resort. Their baggage pick-up service means that you don’t have to wait at baggage claim, rather your luggage is delivered directly to your room! Once you’re ready to hit the parks, you have a large array of Disney provided buses, boats, and monorails to get you where you want to go. No one wants to waste time worrying about how they will get from Point A to Point B while on vacation – Disney knows this, and has eliminated the need for transportation worries!

Shopping Won’t Weigh You Down: For those of you who – like me – enjoy a bit of shopping while you’re on vacation, but avoid it sometimes because you don’t want to lug around your packages all day – Disney has solved that problem, too! If you stay on-site at one of Disney’s incredible resorts, you can make purchases at most on-site shops and have the items shipped right back to your resort room. There no need to worry about carrying it around.  This is such a great little perk of staying on Disney property – just to not have to worry about losing bags or breaking things or dropping or getting things dirty/wet – what a relief!

The Magic: This one is hard to really describe – especially if you have never been to Walt Disney World. For those of you who have, you know what I mean – the themes carried on throughout every tiny detail, the sites, the smells, the music and sounds, the characters, the FOOD – it all kind of adds up to this amazing immersive experience that you get when your visit includes staying on site – that Magic stays with you the WHOLE TRIP – even as you head back to your Resort – the friendly cast members are always there to help, and the magic is seen in everything they do

CONS Of Staying on Property: So, obviously I personally prefer staying on property at one of Disney’s Resorts – but I am also realistic enough to know that it might not be for everyone, and I want to explore some reasons why you might opt NOT to stay at a Disney owned Resort Hotel. Price is probably the biggest one – as they properties do tend to cost more a night than other nearby offsite hotels that offer similar lodging/amenities (for me the perks always made it worth the extra costs though!). There is also the fact that when you are staying at Disney you may miss out on all there is to do in Orlando too! This may include other theme parks, restaurants, museums, and shopping.

When it comes to answering the question “Is Staying On Property At Disney Worth It?” – Well, at the end of the day, you’re the only one that can say what’s best for you and your family when it comes to where to stay for your Walt Disney World vacation. I personally think there are a TON of amazing perks to staying “On Property” at a Walt Disney World Resort – extra park time, an amazing (and free!) transportation system, plus that Disney MAGIC is included too!
