For some of us visitors to Disney, simply schlepping that 7 miles a day to get around the theme parks makes us feel like we are getting a workout.  However, many people that visit Disney with healthy active lifestyles or morning exercise routines may not want to sacrifice your daily workouts especially with all the Dole Whips and ice cream bars you may be having during your stay.  Luckily, Disney makes it easy for visitors to stay active with a range of offerings from visitors of all ages.  To give you just a taste, here are 10 of our favorites.

1. Sunrise Yoga (Saratoga Springs Resort) or Yoga on the Lawn (Contemporary Resort) – Walt Disney World –  Visitors to both Saratoga Springs and the Contemporary Resort can get energized before hitting the theme parks with these morning Yoga offerings.  At Saratoga, 30-minute yoga classes are offered on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:00 am.  The sessions are held near Congress Park Pool.  Mats are provided and the sessions cater to all fitness levels.  Kids must be accompanied by a grown-up.  The sessions are limited to 20 staying at the resort.  Over at the Contemporary, sessions take place at 7:30 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  On offer is a 30-minute gentle yoga class under the Skyway Bridge.  Mats a provided and sessions are limited to 20 guests staying at the Contemporary.

2. Guided Morning Power Walk – Disney California Adventure Park –  Guest staying at one of Disneyland’s three on-site properties can recharge those batteries with a two-mile power walk through Disney California Adventure before the park opens to the general public!  The walk is guided by a Disneyland Resort guest activities cast member and is a great way to stay in shape.  You may even learn a thing or two! Advanced reservations are required and can be made through hotel guest services!

3. Kayak Rentals – Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground – Walt Disney World – Families can enjoy a paddling adventure on the scenic streams and ponds found at this beautiful wilderness retreat.  Rentals are available from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm daily and cost $13.00 an hour. Reservations are not necessary but kayaks are rented out on a first-come, first-served basis.  Guests must be 18 or older to rent a kayak and a valid Resort ID and photo idea is required.  Max capacity per kayak is 2 guests.  Life jackets must be worn at all times.  For more information, guests can contact the Bike Barn at the resort at 407.824.2932.

4. Grand Morning Stretch – Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa – Disneyland Resort – Head over to the Grand Californian in the morning for a bit of rejuvenation.  the Grand Morning Stretch is designed to improve circulation, release tension and promote strength and stability.  This mat pilates class is on offer for those staying at one of Disneyland’s onsite resorts and is the perfect way to stay centred even while on vacation.

5. Surf Lessons – Typhoon Lagoon – Walt Disney World Disney World –  Have you ever wanted to learn to surf? Now’s your chance.  Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon offers surfing lessons before the park opens.  Guests can spend a few hours with professional instructors learning the tricks of the trade.  Packages come with a light breakfast as well as photography and can be booked by calling 407.939.7529.

Volleyball, Tennis and Basketball – Various Resorts – Walt Disney World –  If teams sports or hitting the courts is more your thing then there is no shortage of great spaces to enjoy a game of tennis some beach volleyball or even a quick game of hoops.  Many of Disney’s onsite properties provide volleyball, tennis and basketball courts for the enjoyment of onsite guests here’s a quick rundown:

  • Volleyball: Caribbean Beach Resort, Contemporary Resort, Coronado Springs Resort, Old Key West Resort, Polynesian Village Resort, Yacht & Beach Club, Fort Wilderness and Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin.
  • Tennis: Contemporary Resort, Animal Kingdom-Kidani Village, Boardwalk Inn & Villas, Fort Wilderness, Old Key West Resort, Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, Yacht and Beach Club, and Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin.
  • Basketball: Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village, Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Old Key West Resort, Saratoga Springs Resort, Fort Wilderness, and Disney World Swan and Dolphin.

7. Fitness Centers – Grand Californian, Paradise Pier, Disneyland Hotel – Disneyland Resort – Each of Disneyland’s three onsite properties offer fitness centres that are open 24/7. These are a perfect option for adults looking to squeeze in a workout in between visits to the theme park.  At each of the centres, you’ll find treadmills, bicycles, ellipticals, stair climbers, free weights and weight machines.

8. Health Clubs – Various Resorts – Walt Disney World – Guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resorts can stay in shape while on vacation thanks to state-of-the-art fitness machines, treadmills, bicycles and elliptical machines found at various onsite properties.  Here’s a list of Walt Disney World Resorts Offering Fitness Centers:

Bike Rentals – Various Locations – Walt Disney World – Those that prefer to cycle will want to take advantage of bicycle rentals available at select Walt Disney World resorts.  You can ride along tree line paths, through meadows, along canals and so much more.  A handful of Disney properties offer adult bikes and children’s bikes (some even come with training wheels).  There’s also Surrey Bike rentals for families that prefer to peddle together.  Here’s a look at the properties offering cycle rentals:

Surrey Bike Rentals  – (pictured top) Guests can choose a 2 or 4-person Surrey bike for a special outing that’s fun for the whole family!  Whether it is cruising along the banks of the Sassagoula River or peddling along Disney’s Boardwalk, these make for a great Disney memory. You’ll find them at the following locations:

  • Disney’s BoardWalk Villas
  • Disney’s Old Key West Resort
  • Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter

Guests should note that helmets and child seats are complimentary with all standard bike rentals. Florida law requires that all cyclists under 16 years of age wear helmets.  Guests must remain within a designated Resort area where the bikes have been rented.

10 Running Trails – Various Locations – Walt Disney World – For those looking to immerse yourselves in the beautiful surroundings of Walt Disney World, nothing beats going for a morning jog via one of the incredible running trails you’ll find at Walt Disney World Resort.  Here’s a look at the different pathways on offer:

      • All Star Jogging Path- Guests of Disney’s All-Star Resorts can enjoy a quick jog on 1 mile jogging trail that connects the three resorts.
      • Coronado Promenade – This 0.75 promenade loops around Lago Dorado.  Extend your outing with a jogging trail that leads to the Ranchos and Cabanas and reveals an idyllic wetlands area.
      • Epcot Resort Area Jogging Trail – Disney’s Boardwalk Inn, as well as Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club, offers several jogging paths including loops around Crescent Lake and the Yacht and Beach Club.
      • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort – This property offers a scenic walk or run along Barefoot Bay that is approximately 0.6 miles.
      • Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin – Guests staying at this resort can enjoy a 0.8 mile loop around Crescent Lake or a more challenging 2, 3 and 4-mile route.
      • Fort Wilderness & Wilderness Lodge Running Trail – Guest staying at either of these properties can enjoy a 2.5 mile long pathway through resort grounds.  There’s also a 0.75 mile fitness trail and a bike path the connects both properties.
      • Shared Path at Disney’s Grand Floridan and Polynesian Village Resorts – This pathway runs along the beautiful Seven Seas Lagoon and is approximately 1 mile long each way.  The path connects both resorts and passes Disney’s beautiful Wedding Pavilion.  You also get views of Magic Kingdom!
      • Disney’s Contemporary Resort – This monorail property offers a jogging path that circles Bay Lake Tower and the South Garden Wing and is approximately 0.9 miles long.
      • Disney’s Art of Animation Resort – The 1.38 mile trail curves along Hourglass Lake passing the colorful courtyards inspired by Disney•Pixar classics CarsFinding NemoThe Lion King and The Little Mermaid.
      • Port Orleans Jogging Trail – Jog along the Sassagoula River on a 1.7-mile route connecting the Riverside and French Quarter Resort areas.
      • Saratoga Springs Resort – Paved pathways run through this spacious resort including along the greens of Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course.  The jogging trails include a 1.44 mile and 0.8 mile loop.
      • Disney’s Old Key West Resort – This 1.37 mile long path starts at Conch Flats and winds along the canals and fairways of Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course.
      • Disney’s Pop Century Resort – This resort offers two loops coming it at 1.1 miles or 1.38 miles along the picturesque Hourglass Lake.
