There are three on-property hotels at the Disneyland Resort and the Disneyland Hotel is the original! It opened just a few months after Disneyland park opened in 1955. It has undergone renovations in recent years but still has a classic Disney feel to it. Here are 5 great reasons why you should stay at the Disneyland Hotel the next time you visit the Disneyland Resort.
Magical Rooms
All of the regular guest rooms at the Disneyland Hotel sleep up to 5 adults which makes this a great hotel for larger families. However, that’s not the reason these rooms are so magical! The focal point of each guest room at the Disneyland Hotel is the stunning headboard that features an artistically carved representation of Disneyland Park’s famous Sleeping Beauty Castle.
Fiber optics are used to create a magical skyline with fireworks – bringing the immersive park experience into the room. A flick of the switch on the bedside lamp and the headboard lights up to reveal a starry sky and fireworks over the castle while playing When You Wish Upon a Star. It’s the most magical feature in the room!
Pools & Waterslides
Enjoy a splash from the past at 2 retro-themed pools and 2 waterslides that celebrate the imagination and legacy of Disneyland Park. The waterslides are designed to look like monorails and are so cool! The two large slides (one 13 feet high and one 25 feet high) take riders on a winding path through tunnels before a thrilling splash into the pool at the bottom and there are also two mini slides for the little ones in the family. For a more relaxing swimming experience, head to the E-Ticket or D-Ticket pools. There are also poolside cabanas available for a fee.
Theme
The Disneyland Hotel isn’t obviously themed like the rest of the Disney resort hotels but instead pays tribute to the history of Disney. The hotel has three towers, each named for the original three lands in the Disneyland Park – Fantasy, Adventure and Frontier – and the lobby of each tower features artwork and memorabilia relating to that land. The guest rooms of the hotel are spacious, comfortable, and have just the right number of Mickey accents – some obvious and some not so much.
There are also 5 signature suites at this hotel; each with a magical theme! The Pirates of the Caribbean Suite, Fairy Tale Suite, Adventureland Suite, Big Thunder Suite, and Mickey Mouse Penthouse. These suites are definitely on my bucket list!
Location
The Disneyland Hotel is located at one end of the Downtown Disney District. Just steps away from all the dining and shopping experiences! It’s also just a short walk to the theme park entrances. For the shortest walk, request a room in the Adventure Tower. It’s the closest tower to the Downtown Disney District.
Extra Magic Hour
This one is kind of a big deal! Every guest staying at one of the hotels of the Disneyland Resort gets to enter the parks an hour earlier than park opening each day of their stay (park admission required). Guests staying off-site with 3-day or more tickets get an extra hour at Disneyland park for one of their days but they never get the extra hour for Disney California Adventure park. Guests staying at the Disneyland Resort hotels do! Right now the extra magic hour happens at Disneyland park Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and happens at Disney California Adventure park Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
