The parks at the Walt Disney World Resort have reopened and the spookiest time of year is almost here! Usually, that would mean dressing up in your favorite Disney costume and trick or treating through Magic Kingdom for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. Sadly, the party has been canceled this year. However, September 15 through October 31, ALL guests can dress in costumes during regular Magic Kingdom operating hours!
My family and I attended Oogie Boogie Bash at Disney California Adventure last year and we decided to all dress up in coordinating costumes. We themed our costumes to The Little Mermaid. I was Ursula, my husband was Prince Eric, my son was Sebastian, and both of my daughters were Ariel. (Yes, we had two Ariels, because kids)
If you are looking for some Disney family costumes, we’ve got some great ideas for you! I like to go with characters from the same Disney/Marvel/Pixar movie and then figure out who gets to be what character.
One year, my family and I all dressed as Star Wars characters. I was Princess Leia, my husband was Darth Vader, my son was Kylo Ren, my oldest daughter was Rey, and my youngest was baby Yoda. This was before Baby Yoda (the Child) existed so she was literally a baby Yoda.
If The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of your favorites, there are some fantastic characters to dress up as! Jack Skellington, Sally, and Oogie Boogie are all pictured above. There’s also Zero, Doctor Finklestein, and Lock, Shock and Barrel.
You can’t go wrong dressing as your favorite Marvel hero! Captain America, Captain Marvel, and Black Widow are awesome choices. There are lots of Avengers to choose from and even some villains as well. Iron Man, Black Panther, Thor, Loki, and Hulk are just a few other Marvel options.
Depending on how big your family is, there are many options for Disney costumes! For couples with no kids, you can dress as your favorite Disney couple. Belle and the Beast, Cinderella and Prince Charming, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, Woody and Bo Peep, or Carl and Ellie.
For families with little ones, Monsters Inc, Toy Story, and Peter Pan are great choices for character costumes! Mom and Dad can be Mike and Sulley with your little one dressed as Boo. If you go the Toy Story route, you’ll have options like Woody, Jessie, Buzz Lightyear, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, Bo Peep, and Rex. For Peter Pan, Mom and Dad can be Captain Hook and Wendy with the kids being Tinkerbell, Peter Pan, Mr. Smee, or the crocodile.
Many of these costumes can be purchased at Halloween stores or shopDisney. Or you can go the homemade route and make your own costume! A quick search on Pinterest will provide lots of DIYs and how-tos.
