When I first started learning how to plan a Disney vacation my first question was how far in advanced should I book? Knowing when to start planning your Disney vacation could potentially be the top stressor of planning. The short answer is there really is no “wrong” time to book, however, there are many factors you should keep in mind.
When booking a Disney vacation, whether you are visiting Walt Disney World, Disneyland or the Disney Cruise line, booking is simple by picking your dates and placing a deposit. A general rule of thumb is the earlier the better, but we recommend booking at least 6 months in advance for better odds at placing that hard to get dining reservation.
When deciding how to plan a Disney vacation to Walt Disney World I personally like to book my trip when dates first open at 499 Days out, however, this can only be done by using a travel agent. Booking at least 6 months ahead of time or earlier is ideal, especially during peak travel times such as Spring Break, Summer, Epcot International Festivals and holidays.
Booking early during these time help secure your spot in resorts that often fill up quickly and guarantees you a better chance of rate and room category you were looking for. Some of the most popular resorts are the value resorts, due to price, are always one of the first to fill-up quickly during peak times. My favorite value resort is Pop Century, which is a popular opinion among other guests as well. But, don’t let the popular resorts and peak travel times scare you away, there are still plenty of ways to avoid crowds and have an amazing time.
In addition, dining reservations open to guests staying on property at 180 days in advance of your travel dates. Dining reservations at popular places also fill up quickly which is incredibly important to keep in mind when deciding how to plan a Disney vacation. Advanced Dining Reservations are highly recommended for guests visiting during their stay, especially those guests planning on attending the more popular restaurants such as “Be Our Guests” or “Cinderella’s Royal Table”.
However, when deciding how to plan a Disney vacation you can book whenever is convenient to you. Even though we suggest booking at least 6 months in advance, especially those visiting for the first time, those booking “last minute” can still enjoy the parks just as much! There is such a fun spontaneous feeling visiting the parks “on a whim” and you could still try for those last-minute reservations and get one! When deciding how to plan a Disney vacation how far in advance do you book your Walt Disney World vacation?
