Disney’s Animal Kingdom recently welcome a new baby zebra right at the savanna, and now that baby has a name: Dash!
A very fitting name for the foal since he has a spunky spirit and a dash stripe on his left shoulder that is identical to the one on his mom Heidi. Dash is also very active, keeping the team of keeper on their toes as he dash around meeting the other zebras in the herd.
He was born on May 17 right at the Kilimanjaro Safari, in fact, some guests had the opportunity to see the birth of the hartmann’s mountain zebra during their journey through the safari!
Dash is the first baby zebra to be born this year at Walt Disney World as part of the Species Survival Plan Program that is overseen by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. This program ensures responsible breeding and genetic diversity of hundreds of animal species.
So next time you visit Disney’s Animal Kingdom, make sure to take a ride on the Kilimanjaro Safari and say hi to Dash!
