Nutmeg is here to spice up your week! The adorable babirusa piglet just made her first appearance to guests in The Oasis!
Her keepers used enrichment items for her to find on her way to The Oasis, after spending a few months backstage bonding with mom. The birth of Nutmeg was recommended per the Association of Zoos and Aquarium’s Species Survival Plan since babirusa pigs are a vulnerable species threatened by habitat destruction, making her birth a great contribution to their conservation.
Did you know babirusas are part of the hog family? Native to the swamps and rainforests of the Indonesian Islands, babirusa piglets are known for their unique snouts and magnificent tusks that can grow up to almost 17 inches!
