As Disney Addicts, we are probably all familiar with the rides, restaurants, and well-known attractions at Disney. If you transport my family in the middle of Main Street, I know exactly what we would make a beeline for: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan’s Flight, and Barnstormer. Then later in the day we will buy an ice cream cone topped with Mickey ears from the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor while we wait for the 3pm parade. Then at some point before we get transported back to the Garden State, we will have a meal at Crystal Palace.
But as much as we have our standard must-do rides and stops, there’s always something new that surprises us whenever we go to Disney. So for your next trip, consider the following as some options to add just a bit more pixie dust to your trip – and some of them don’t cost a thing!
- Be a Ringmaster for the day! Did you know that if you are the first family to enter Big Top Souvenirs at Storybook Circus in Magic Kingdom, you might be asked to open the store? You will walk around the store with a cast member and be hailed as Ringmaster of the Day! You will get a shiny button with your new title, and you may even get your choice of a treat from their choice of desserts and snacks.
- Listen to a party line at the Chapeau. The Chapeau is the place where you get Disney hats embroidered, but have you ever noticed the old phone hanging on the wall? Have you ever tried picking up the receiver to hear what is being said on the line? I won’t spoil the fun!
- Sing along with Chip ‘N Dale. At the campsites at Fort Wilderness Resort, guests and visitors can take part in Chip ‘N Dale’s nightly campfire sing-along. Guests can buy s’mores kits and roast them on the fire while Chip ‘N Dale show off their silly side. A Cast Member leads the group in lively song and guests can stick around later in the evening for a movie underneath the stars.
- Watch the amazing feats of the Jeweled Dragon Acrobats. This amazing troupe performs regularly in the China Pavilion at Epcot. You will be amazed by their balance, grace and strength! I mean, I can’t even hula hoop to one ring, let alone have 15 rings twirl not only on my waist but also on my arms and feet.
- Hunt for Hidden Mickey’s. Hidden Mickeys are typically silhouettes of Mickey’s head that Imagineers have hidden throughout Disney resorts, rides, and attractions. For many families, hunting for hidden Mickey’s has become a tradition with every trip. There are books and websites dedicated to compiling locations of hidden Mickey’s and putting together scavenger hunts for visitors. To me, this is one of those activities that make me feel like I am discovering Disney anew. It’s amazing how much thought goes into every ride and establishment, including the placement of that ever-so-important hidden mouse.
- Get a haircut at the Harmony Barber Shop on Main Street. In a little corner off of Main Street is where the Harmony Barber Shop is located. From little boys and girls getting their first haircuts to adults too, you can’t beat being able to say that you got your hair done right at the Magic Kingdom. Even better: the prices are reasonable too!
Now it’s your turn DA’s – what other little known Disney experiences have you been a part of? And where would you head to if you were transported to Main Street at this very minute?
