For most of us, going on a Disney Cruise is a family affair with little ones in tow. However, that does not mean there’s a shortage of wonderful and thoughtful activities for those looking for quieter and more adult-themed options. As a matter of fact, having gone on several Disney Cruises, I find it a bit of misconception that there’s nothing for adults to do during these magical sailings. Whether you are planning a wedding anniversary, honeymoon, couples getaway or are travelling with kids but just want some alone time, be prepared to be spoiled for choice. Here are just a handful of things for adults to do on a Disney Cruise.
Quiet Cove Pool – Each of the four ships in Disney Cruise Line’s fleet offer an Adult’s Only deck where you can sit back and relax in the quiet and tranquil surroundings. Located on Decks 11 on Disney Dream and Fantasy and Deck 9 on the Magic and Wonder, the deck offers a main pool, whirlpool spas a bar and plenty of areas to lay back and soak up the sun. Guests must be 18 years of age and older to enjoy the facilities here which means it is truly an adults-only oasis.
Cove Cafe – Adjacent to the adults-only pool area, you’ll find one of our favorite spaces to hang out on the ships. The Cove Cafe is only open to those 18 and older making it the perfect quiet space to enjoy a morning coffee, finish that novel or curl up with a crossword. The cafe serves up gourmet coffee, cocktails, baked goods and also has flat-screen TVs.
Senses Spa – For those looking for the ultimate way to relax and unwind, Senses Spa is definitely the place to be! This adults-only retreat offers a juice bar, a fitness center and a range of wonderful 0ptions including everything from facials and messages to salon services. Couples looking for that once-in-a-lifetime experience can splash out for private villas where you can book in-depth spa packages. Or, for those more budget minded, I recommend the Rainforest Pass which gives you entry to scented showers, aroma steam rooms, sauna rooms, a private jacuzzi and heated stone loungers! Trust me when I say that it is pure bliss!
Gourmet Dining at Palo and Remy – Though dining in Disney Cruise Line’s main restaurants is always included in the cost of your package, those looking fine/dining in an adults-only atmosphere have some fantastic options to choose from at an additional cost. Palo, is an adults-only fine dining experience available onboard all four of Disney’s cruise ships. The restaurant specializes in Northern Italian Cuisine which pairs nicely with classic reserve wines on offer. For dinner, the nightly culinary journey starts with cold and hot antipasti selections followed by a main course of pasta, seafood or meat and a sweet treat for dessert. You’ll find an additional adults-only gourmet offering, Remy, aboard the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. The cuisine here melds contemporary styles and classic French dining. Dinner starts with signature cocktails made tableside followed by 8 to 9 small courses with a delectable array of wines to compliment each course.
Bars and Lounges – Each of Disney Cruise Line’s four ships has a downtown district of sorts that is perfect for adults looking for a bit of nightlife. You’ll find everything from British pubs to champagne lounges to places to go and dance the night away. All the venues in this special adults-only district are interconnected, making it easy to try a little bit of everything. Best of all, no-kids-allowed!
Serenity Bay at Castaway Cay – For those lucky enough to have stop at Disney’s private island Castaway Cay included in your itinerary, you’ll definitely want to head to Serenity Bay, the island’s adults-only beach. This private patch of island is the perfect place to unwind. You even have the option of treating yourself to an open-air cabana massage under swaying palm trees, ordering speciality drinks from the Air Bar or indulging in a BBQ lunch.
Adults Only Port Adventures – Though many of Disney’s port excursions are designed to cater to visitors of all-ages, on each sailing Disney Cruise Line also offers a wonderful array of adults-only options for those looking to explore with the over 18’s. You’ll find everything from special tours of islands like Antigua and Jamaica and more to special snorkelling adventures, distillery tours and more! Be sure to look out for these special adventures when planning out your days at Sea!
Adults-Only Onboard Activites – On embarkation day, be sure to consult your ships list of onboard happenings for special adult activities. Options can include everything from food and beverage tastings to talks with an Imagineer to art classes!
This is just a snapshot of all of the incredible activities for adults that you’ll find on a Disney Cruise. Though Disney Cruise Line sailings are an absolute haven for families looking to play together, they can also be filled with wonderful, intimate and more mature experiences for adults looking to get away.
