Like many of my fellow Disney addicts, I was heartbroken when I heard the news that our beloved theme parks would be temporarily shut down. While I completely understood and agreed with putting the safety and health of guests and cast members first, there was something just so sad about picturing my absolute favorite places on Earth barren and empty. As I saw on my timelines and feeds, I was not alone. You see, Disney is not just a place, it is not just an “amusement park”. Disney, whether it be World or Land, holds a deep emotional connection for many of us. As we all anxiously await for those gates to reopen, I would like to reflect on some of the reasons I believe we hold this special place in our hearts for Disney.
Nostalgia- Some of the absolute best memories I have of my childhood are from Walt Disney World. My grandparents were huge fans of Disney and took me multiple times. To this day, when I am there I visit the special places in the parks that I remember my grandparents loving. It is like visiting my childhood home. I’m sure this is why I always gravitate to the “classic” attractions such as The Haunted Mansion and It’s a Small World, these attractions have remained consistent and bring back all of the memories of experiencing them throughout my life.
You’ve Celebrated Special Moments there- Disney is such a wonderful place to celebrate any occasion. It is not surprising that many of us have celebrated some of our most special moments within the parks. Whether it was an engagement, birth announcement, birthday, honeymoon or anniversary, we remember the celebration we shared at Disney and the extra magic that came with it.
Sharing our Love with Others- It is almost impossible for a Disney addict to not try to spread the Disney love to others. Whether it is sharing Disney with our children, significant others, or friends, Disney forms very special bonds. There have been few things or experiences in my life more magical than watching my husband become a Disney lover or seeing my daughter’s face when she saw Cinderella Castle for the very first time. Seeing our loved ones experience the things that are so special to us makes them even more special. Disney really has a way of bringing people together.
The Cast Members and Customer Service- Ever gone on another vacation and quickly realized how amazing Disney’s cast members and customer service really are? I sure have. The cast members at Disney really go above and beyond to make sure each guest has a truly magical experience. Things can sometimes go wrong on vacation, and I know when I am at Disney if something does happen to go awry, I have an amazing team willing to help make it right.
The bottom line is that Disney has been like a best friend to many of us throughout the years. We have visited in celebration and maybe even in times of sorrow when we needed some extra light, and just as best friends do- we will be waiting with open arms.
