What comes to mind when you think of Christmastime at Walt Disney World’s theme parks? The Magic Kingdom is merry and bright with celebrating Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Epcot enjoys having its Candlelight Processional during Festival of the Holidays. Meanwhile, Disney’s Hollywood Studios has “Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!” delighting audiences each night. But what about Disney’s Animal Kingdom? Walt Disney World made festive additions this year and transformed Animal Kingdom into a whole new holiday experience! Here’s why you need to see Animal Kingdom for the holiday season!
Merry Menagerie Puppet Show
When you enter Animal Kingdom during the day, you might see something quite different… Discovery Island has performers with life-size animal puppets! Polar bears, penguins, winter owls, and wolves are some of the animated puppets you’ll encounter in the area. The performers bring these wondrous puppets to life as they dance about. Check them out as you approach the Tree of Life!
Disney Characters Enjoying the Holiday Season!
Many of the characters at Animal Kingdom are spreading holiday cheer! Mickey and Minnie meet guests in their usual spot. Only now both have added holiday garments to their costumes.
You’ll find even more characters celebrating in Dinoland USA!
It’s Christmastime in Dinoland USA!
Ho, ho, ho! The dinosaurs and ducks of Duckburg have decorated Animal Kingdom’s Dinoland! All of the characters wear Christmas attire and feature holiday backdrops. There’s so many characters to meet and take photos with! Seeing so many holiday characters is sure to put you in the Christmas mood.
The landscape of Dinoland USA is illuminated with Christmas lights and beautiful decorations. You need to see the land at nighttime to see the lights display! I was caught off guard with the amazing mashup of Christmas and dinosaurs. Seeing Dinoland USA is a must if you go to Animal Kingdom this season. Donald’s Dino-Bash is certainly merry this time of year!
Pandora – The World of Avatar
Pandora stays dedicated and true to its theme. However, you’ll find that some of the humans on the world of Pandora have decorated their camp a bit. The giant AMP mech suit found near Satu’li Canteen has been dressed up as Santa Claus!
Even though that’s the only holiday themed item to find, it is worth exploring the land. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the movie Avatar. Riding “Flight of Passage” is a great way to mark this special anniversary! It’s one of the most incredible ride experiences you’ll find at Disney World.
Diwali – The Holiday Festival of Lights
Animal Kingdom’s Asia is celebrating the Diwali, the Festival of Lights. A group of live entertainers explain the cultural traditions of the holiday while performing for guests. The lights are beautiful to see!
Tree of Life
The Tree of Life now has a new Christmas overlay this season. The Tree of Life Awakenings features Christmas themed projections and music. It’s fun to have a unique type of Christmas tree to gather around this year!
Have a merry time if you go to Animal Kingdom these next few weeks!
