The Haunted Mansion is hands down one of the most popular and iconic attractions ever created by Disney. It has a huge following and is a classic Disney staple. Spooky season is right around the corner, and Walt Disney World Resort has already started the celebrations with the new Boo Bash After Hours special ticketed event. Let’s celebrate the Halloween season with a few fun facts about this iconic attraction you may not know.
There are Multiple Versions of the Attraction
The Haunted Mansion is such a classic attraction that versions of it were created at multiple Disney parks around the world. Of course, Disneyland Resort’s Haunted Mansion is the original. Some version of the attraction also exists in Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Paris, Tokyo Disneyland, and Hong Kong Disneyland which has an attraction called Mystic Manor and isn’t technically considered to be part of the HM family. I personally would love to ride all of them!
Each Disney Park has the Attraction in a Different Land
In addition to all 4 Haunted Mansion attractions being different, the ride is also located in a different land in every Disney Park. At Disneyland, you can find it in New Orleans Square, at Disney World it is in Liberty Square, at Disneyland Paris, it resides in Frontierland, and in Tokyo Disneyland, it is found in Fantasyland.
The Haunted Mansion Building Sat Empty After Walt Disney Passed Away
The original attraction sat unfinished after Walt’s death in 1966. It remained unfinished until 1969 when Imagineers finally came up with the attraction’s concept.
People Actually Try to Scatter Ashes of Loved Ones on the Attraction Quite Often
Unfortunately for the guests that attempt this, Disney has eyes and ears everywhere and if they are caught- they will be reprimanded and the ride will have to stop. The ashes inevitably get sucked up by a special vacuum and wind up in the trash.
The Dancing Ballroom Utilizes a Very Old Special Effect
The Haunted Mansion’s Ballroom scene is definitely one of the most iconic and popular parts of the attraction, and though it may look like it uses cutting-edge technology, the special effect is quite old! The illusion used to create the effect is based on illuminating objects and letting them be reflected onto glass, which gives them that ghostly, transparent look!
The Haunted Mansion is by far my all-time favorite attraction and remains incredibly popular with guests! Make sure to ride it at night for an even better experience!
