Hop Into Adventure With The Redwood Creek Challenge Trail at DCA
If you’ve been to the movies lately, you know that Pixar’s Hoppers is officially taking over. Between the new merch and those hilarious clips on social media, the energetic spirit of the film is everywhere. But if you’re looking to actually step into that world, you’ve gotta head over to Disney California Adventure. For a limited time, they’ve transformed the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail into Mabel’s Seek & Find, and honestly? It’s the perfect excuse to act like a kid again or let your actual kids burn off that churro energy.

Getting Your Pond Rules Down

The vibe at the trail is super chill, especially around 4:00 PM when the sun starts peeking through the canopy. Right at the entrance, a Cast Member greets you with the pond rules and a choice of four different maps. You can team up with King George, the Insect Queen, Ellen Bear, or the fan-favorite Tom Lizard, i mean he’s an icon. They hand you a pencil and a keepsake map, and suddenly you aren’t just walking through trees, you’re on a mission to bring all the animals back to the glade.
The Challenges: High Tech Meets High Trees

The trail is broken down into specific tasks that keep you moving. You’ll find yourself checking the temperature at the Weather Station and messing with a high-frequency dial to help the local wildlife. It’s a great mix of stop and smell the roses and hunt for clues. While wandering past the Millennium Tree, you might see how everyone from toddlers to grandparents get in on the action. It’s one of those rare spots in the park where you can actually hear yourself think while still being part of the Disney magic.
A Few Must-Do Stops:

- The Weather Station: Simple, but essential for the map.
- The Decoder Mission: Located near the Mt. Shasta Lookout. You have to use a special key on a radio set to unlock a secret message from Tom.
- The Reptile Queens: Keep your eyes peeled; spotting them is key to completing the lizard-specific quest.
Finding Mabel at the Finish Line

The highlight of the trek has to be the Mt. Whitney Lookout area. Between the Cliff Hang Traverse and the Hoot-N-Holler Logs, the energy is infectious. You’ll even spot some Hoppers signage that had a little girl nearby chanting lizard, lizard, lizard in pure excitement, which pretty much summed up the mood.
As you wrap up the Quail Trail and head toward the Ahwahnee Camp Circle, you’ll find Mabel herself (voiced by Piper Curda) perched on a beaver dam. It’s the ultimate photo op to prove you finished the quest. Once you’ve decoded the secret message, you head back to the start, trade in your borrowed pencil, and score some exclusive stickers. Getting that Challenge Complete! sticker feels surprisingly rewarding, no matter how old you are.
Why It’s Worth the Hop

Redwood Creek has always been a nostalgic spot for those who grew up visiting DCA, providing a much-needed break from the long lines of Grizzly River Run. Adding the Hoppers theme just gives it that extra layer of current Pixar charm. It’s a relaxed, shaded, and totally fun way to celebrate the movie while enjoying the Great Outdoors.
