Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside is a moderate resort located in the Disney Springs area of Walt Disney World Resort. If you are planning a trip to Disney World in the near future and are currently undecided about what resort you’re going to stay at, consider the following reasons and you may find that Riverside is the right choice for you!
Rooms
Port Orleans Riverside has standard rooms just like other Disney resort hotels. There are rooms with 2 queen beds, 1 king bed, and 2 queens with a child-size pull-down bed. While those rooms are comfortable, they aren’t what sets this resort hotel apart from the others. That would be the Royal Rooms!
If you have a prince or princess in your family that wants to stay in a room fit for royalty, you’ll want to book a Royal Room at Port Orleans Riverside. Disney offsets wood with gold trim to make the visuals pop, and the lush paintings on the headboards above the beds are simply breathtaking. Best of all, pictures of Disney Princesses adorn the walls, and the fireworks on the headboards light up!
Transportation
While this resort has bus transportation to and from the theme parks, there’s a special form of transportation from the resort to Disney Springs. The Sassagoula River Cruise is a boat that takes guests to and from Disney Springs. It’s better than a bus ride due to the scenery. When you ride the boat, you’ll get to see different parts of the Walt Disney World campus including close-up views of the Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa and Lake Buena Vista Golf Course.
Atmosphere
Perhaps the best analogy for Riverside is that it’s like entering a Mark Twain novel, complete with picturesque settings and a tranquil ambiance. Guests who stay here will feel like they’re living on the river in rural Louisiana, a place that has historical significance to Disney. The Louisiana setting plays a part in two of the most famous attractions, Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Caribbean. When you’re a guest at Port Orleans Riverside, you’ll feel like you’re on the bayou, even though you’re only a few miles away from all major Disney attractions.
Recreation
There are various recreational offerings to fit your fancy at Port Orleans Riverside. Rental bikes, boats, horse-drawn carriage rides, jogging trails, pools, playgrounds, fishing, and campfire nights are all available to resort guests. There is so much to do here without a park ticket!
Pools
Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort has five pools. The main pool, Ol’ Man Island, has a 95-foot waterslide, fit for kids and kids at heart. This area is also where you will find the Muddy Rivers pool bar, which serves both alcoholic and kid-friendly drinks. The other four leisure pools are for those looking to relax and enjoy some quiet time away from the main hubs of the resort. Hammocks, fire-pits, hot-tubs, and nightly movies on the big screen make these areas extra fun for everyone to enjoy.
My husband and I stayed at Port Orleans Riverside for our anniversary in May and we loved it! It’s a beautiful resort and you really feel like you’re on the Bayou in Louisianna.
